Amsterdam!

Going to Dam for 1 day for my mates birthday on the 15th september.

The cheapest flights I've found from london (luton or stanstead) is £50 return.

Can anyone beat that price before I book.

Also its my first time, been pretty briefed up, but anything else i should know!?

Cheers :w00t:

Yep, you'll probably get attacked/have your camera smashed or stolen. I've heard from people it's happened to, and saw some guy get water thrown on him by some scantily clad lady who he had just snapped. It is certainly tempting.. just to show people! But no - avoid! ;-) Apart from that the Redlight district is pretty safe and always full of people/tourists.

If your into movies/music, then check out FAME (google it) - it's like HMV, but with lots of cool dutch release DVDs (it's just on a street off the main square, and they have good sale stuff).

And you'll obviously know the difference between coffee shops, and cafes. The former you order from inside - although you can enjoy your "coffee" outside if they have tables and chairs

The 'Dam rules mate. One day? You'll want to be going back..

Thanks for that mate. I've heard they have some of the best coffees and cakes in the world!

Were considering going for longer, but then you have to arrange accomodation, unless you know any cheap, but not appauling places!?

There are signs around the red light district saying no photography so you have no excuse :P

You know what - I never knew about that rule before going - I found it out after. Luckily, I didnt take any photos - simply because it didn't seem right to be snapping the girls somehow, and they were like hawks staring at anyone who had a camera in their hand - however I was tempted to on occasion..

So I always warn people, simply because I never actually noticed any "no photography" signs myself. I must be blind, but my girl and I wandered up there a fair few times over the days we were there - and never noticed any signs. So could be an easy mistake to make if your a little unawares..

Donleeone - I'll ask the girl about accommodation, and get back to you as she sorted it out. Dont think it was too bad though, and we were dead central.

Try going by train? I know east anglia has special deals for stuff like that..seeing as you put luton / stansted I guess you don't live too far from Cambridge where they definately do the deals!

Just back from my third trip, this time with the girlfriend. Advise is do Casa Rosa in the red light, its the most known and decent show and then head to a night club, biterzoets if you want a cheap one or escape if you want something a bit more upmarket clubbing. If your gonna do something during the day try the Heineken factory, its great. Also madam tusuads is really good out there (just on Dam Square).

What's that like? My girlfriend actually wanted to do that! :w00t: But I wasn't too sure - so we ended up skipping it. We're gonna go back tho, this time with a load of friends.
