amsterdam hotel..

i'm looking for a hotel for a few nights next month that's pretty close to the dam square and not too pricey..

never been before so looking for suggestions!

Arena Hotel is lovely - it's not in the centre of everything but it's very chic:

Hotel de Paris is a lovely little hotel not far from Leidseplein. Very homely feel and polite owner. Great location and last time I stayed rates were good.

The only place I would advise you NOT to stay is the Hans Brinker
You really do get what you pay for and this place is reminiscent of a student dorm/prison cell. Not nice at all!

    Hope this helps. x

Like princess said you will have a great time. If you're partial to coffee shops - don't miss out on Kadinsky's (there is more than one) and The Dolphin which is so great to sit and chill out with a hot chocolate and "stuff".…tml

thanks both of you - i'll check out the links now!

I stayed at the Victoria Park Plaza hotel last weekend, directly opposite Central Station, 3 minutes walk to Dam square. Very good quality hotel, the best I've stayed in in Amsterdam Centre, worked out just over £100/room/night, w/out Breakfast. Free use of swimming pool, steam room, sauna etc - facilities that are quite rare in Amsterdam, most hotels being too small for such luxuries!.

I stayed in the Ramada last year - NEVER AGAIN!!!! Terrible service, room standard, the whole package was blummin awful.

I highly recommend the Victoria Park Plaza.
