I recently bought my daughter an Android OS Samsung 15700. As she has limited data usage on her contract is there a way where I can limit her use of Android marketplace by placing a password on accessing it?

Any help really appreciated.

not as far as i know. but when she is on marketplace i think she has to put in card details to buy anything anyway.

what is her data allowance? why are you worried that she'll go over?

Frankly she hasn't got any data allowance, and as i'm paying for the rolling contract I want to avoid getting charged for for the data useage of what she downloads.

set her up on wifi at home so she doesn't use the bill at home.

just warn her that you'll take the money out of her pocket money if she uses it.

to be fair though she's more likely to go on facebook/IM chat/general internet browsing/youtube rather than use the data browsing the marketplace.

You can't use android without having a data contract - unless you have Sense which has the ability to disconnect from mobile network, or android 2.2.

Could destroy the APN so she can't get online outside of Wifi if you REALLY want to.

seems stupid to get an android phone and no data plan, maybe research before you buy next time

Depends on the network. I know on T-Mobile, if you have something called "cops" enabled you cannot access marketplace. Basically, its a contect lock which stops anyone over 18 accessing over 18 material. This also blocks Marketplace.

Maybe all networks do this but im unsure.

You need to get her a data allowance.
Android relies very heavily on data,as will most of the things she will want to use on such a phone.
