it will go straight out of your bank account.

When you actually pay for the item it will tell you your payment options

    thanks

If I pay by card the amount is pending straight away frrom my bank,if I use the option for bank transfer it isn't taken for a few a few days, until then it shows as available in my balance

you can either choose to have the money come off your card or out of your account, be warned though if you do it from your bank acount youll be paying by paypal e-cheque which some sellers hate as it can take up to 10 days before they money clears with them. if you pay from you account be prepared to wait a couple of weeks before the seller will post the item.

90% of my payments are bank transfers as I forget to do it from my card (offers extra protection, the reason you cannot set it to default) and none of mine on ebay have been e-cheques, the only time I had this happen was when using it on sizeup.

Mine aren't e-cheques either when they are paid from my bank account, they are instant bank transfers, they only go through as an e-cheque when you don't have a card registered to back up the payment

If it's paypal gift, if you have it set up to your card and you dont have the funds in your account you will get charged.

if you have verified your bank card with paypal, then any funds over and above what you have in your paypal account will come out of your bank by transfer.if a card is not verifed then it will be paid by e-cheque which takes ages and is a pain in the @r*e.
