Another stupid ebay question

I purchased the norton antivirus from a seller on ebay almost a year ago no problem until I downloaded the new version only to find out that the keycode had been registered to someone else. Have purchased another from amazon this time,

my question...lol i am getting to it....is there any point in informing ebay about the seller as I am not the only person they have sold this to. I have tired to contact the seller via email message and I have phoned several times. Obviously with no luck

Why did you buy Norton!??
There's plenty of FREE antivirus software out there.

To name a few...
Avast!
AVG Free
Kaspersky

Oh, yes, report to eBay too....

I'm stunned that people still buy (crap) AV software.

Anyway, don't forget Microsoft Security Essentials.

because Norton is one of the highest rated AV solutions now, constantly coming out tops. Free is ok but if you're concerned about PC security then a paid solution is the only solution.

I can help you with this question, there are hundred of people selling these, I actually phoned up Ebay telling them this, they did not seem to care as Nortons are Big sellers ( I think i even indicated that they may be crash codes , people were selling these at stupid prices and by 100's a day ( no joke ) I know where these come from now after a bit of research and that company takes Paypal!!
They cost about 3 each!!! ( and this is not a small web site we are talking about it is massive ) you would think that Ebay/ Paypal would stop this, it's been going on for years.
But agree with Birdy there is alot of free antivirus out there, not sure which one as I use safari and don't get too many problems.

Fair comment, a quick look does suggest it appears to have improved but I still maintain that one of the free ones is more than ample for the average user.

Generally they are, some people like to pay the extra for a little more peace of mind.

It's annoying that you can't really moan about PC World staff trying to fob a rubbish product off to customers anymore though.

Most companies who offer free anti virus also SELL anti virus and other security products.

Often the anti virus is given away as a "loss leader" to get you to buy further products from the same company.

Nobody is going to "give away" bad anti virus for free as it would ruin their reputation.

Microsoft Security Essentials will be fine as it does AV as well as spyware / malware.

don't use AV, just install it every 6 months do a scan and nothing is ever found, guess the fact I lock my OS down and know all the process that should be running etc.

thats why I buy it, and spyware doctor as well, we have had a few viruses in the computer when we were using the free ones plus I like that norton keeps your passwords for you and has the little green ticks next to the websites before i go on them

lol, of course on my NHS notebook, its works not mine lol

If the seller is selling lots of these then report them to Norton or to FAST

Ebay don't care about copyright piracy.

Maybe I'm missing something here but you purchased it nearly a year ago and I presume have been using it nearly a year. New version wont work as you bought the key for the older version which is near its expiry date

ok so how do I actually report them? lol havent done it before

no bought 2 years protection, part of the money you pay is to download the newer versions as they become avaliable, otherwise your product would go out of date really fast, same thing with the anti spyware program I have I download the new version when prompted to

Norton is trash.
and the above statement is just wrong.

plenty of free alternatives that dont bloat out your computer.

My recommendations are MS security essentials (if you have genuine windows) or Avast! if you haven't.

I think I have the year 2003 on the phone for you, it wants its opinion on Norton back please.

Look I have no issue with the free stuff, they're generally ok and I use MSE on one of my machines but they're not as good as the paid for solutions, check any independent test and you'll see.

I've never seen a free version come in the top 3 of any test based on performance alone.

I laugh at people who buy Norton, PC noob's lol

Err hardly lol *rolls eyes*

You think paying for AV products mean's they work better than free AV's your very wrong, Norton actually pay for the reviews, My uncle worked for them, Their con artist's.

You would have thought they would have cottoned on sooner to paying off independent testing sites when they were giving them a mauling a few years ago. Actually I'm fairly certain they did pay for some reviews back then as some places always rated them highly but nobody listened to those reviews anyway.

@ OP

I had exactly this same problem......bought 2 year cover for 3 pc's.
It is installed on only 3 too.
Got message to update to 2011 on other half's system. did so and as soon as i did, it said 'Uh-errr!!! i don't think so laddie'
So, i simply, uninstalled 2011 and reinstalled 2010 back on and hey prest, it activated absolutely fine.
Moral of the story, dont upgrade to the 2011. Not really that much difference between 2010 & 2011 anyway. 1998 to 2011 and yeah then there will be differences
