Anthony Wilson dies from cancer

Found 11th Aug 2007
Anthony Wilson, the music mogul behind some of Manchester's most successful bands, has died of cancer.

The Salford-born entrepreneur, who founded Factory records, the label behind New Order and the Happy Mondays, was diagnosed last year.

The 57-year-old, also famous for setting up the Hacienda nightclub, underwent emergency surgery in January to remove a kidney.

He passed away on Friday evening at the Christie Hospital surrounded by family.

Top Bloke RIP

Just woke to hear this sad news :-(
very complex, articulate and intelligent man and a real shame
all he was bothered about was the music and for the bands to do what they wanted to do and just make their own style of music.
never did he tell them to change, influence them, and i love the comment that's been banded about he said about how london-centric music had become and how he was determined to take it away from there, if the A&R folks wanna see the bands, tell them to get on a train

doubt they'll ever be somone like him again, God Bless him

Hacienda was a one off top place, many good memories. Great bloke.
