ANTI VIRUS & SPYWARE

I have the full version of Ad aware 2008 and zone alarm security suite.

based on peoples experiences - what is the best to have on my laptop?

Is zone alarm virus/spyware as good as avg?

Zone alarm is not an antivirus software. its a firewall. It watches any conection to or from your computer and protect you from unwanted connections.

Adaware is OK, but you need to install an antivirus. I would recomend avira antivir. Its free can be downloaded here: www.free-av.com
I also would suggest you replace zone alarm by an excellent british-made comodo firewall www.comodo.com

The two sofware are highly rated here:
techsupportalert.com/bes…htm
and
techsupportalert.com/bes…htm

if your willing to spend money, you can purchase the famous Kaspersky security package. You can find Kaspersky deals here on HUKD

The ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite has virus checker/spyware checker included with it. Do you know if their virus/spyware checker is good enough not to install any other virus checker/spyware software?

You can get kaspersky free now under the barclays HUKD thread.

Zonealarms Anti virus is Kaspersky.

Zonealarm's firewall is said to be one of the best, I've had Zonealarm internet security suite and can honestly say it's one of the best their is, It's quite resource intensive though ( Not as bad as Norton though..!!! ).

Sometimes Zonealarm's firewall can be a little bit too tight though and requires reconfiguring as it tends to block the odd legit programs from accessing the internet, ( At least you know it's working ).

The Anti-spyware and Anti-virus is good as well, Updates regularly and I've never suffered from virus attacks etc, It prevented some viruses and spyware when I used it.

Currently I'm running Norton 360 V2 and it's not as bad as Norton's other internet security suites. Although I prefer Zonealarm I use use Norton 360 as it was given to me for free.!!!

Spysweepers a pretty good spyware program,

The least resource intensive suites are probably Bitdefender and Nod32 I've tried them before and their ok but I didn't rate them as highly as Zonealarm, Their firewalls are a little weak.

oh sorry, i missed the ZA suite bit i thought it was the free version of ZA whic only includes a firewall...

you can google antivirus performace. i think ZA is not particalarly well in terms of detecting virusses..
check for example this peformance test result:
pcworld.com/art…tml
or
av-comparatives.org/

usually ZA is not featured there

but if you spent money on that already, uninstalling it would be a waste. you can make use of its support service.
You also can install threatfire, a complementary software that makes ativirus works better:
threatfire.com/

If you have the zonealarm suite then that is the one to use over adaware because it includes everything.

You would still need a good anti spyware program.. Something like AVG anti-spyware and spyware doctor free through google...
