I use AVG.

Can't say I'm very happy with the new series 8 version.

Any suggestions for better free ones?

NOD32

Demonoid!;-)

we use AVG here at work, Avast is supposed to be semi decent too.

Stick to Kaspersky at home..

Avast is good....found it to be much better than AVG

Avast

I used to use Anti Vir, but when I was gaming a lot on the PC it got in the way, so I switched to Avast. I never got on with AVG.

Avast, much better than avg now. Avira is the worst from what test reports I have seen

Sloth/Mod

I use this but i always preferred the banana flavoured one. :-D

Avast!, me hearties, aye!

find out list of best security freeware here: techsupportalert.com/sec…ity

Avira antivir won reccomendation here: techsupportalert.com/bes…htm

but its up to you actually (interface freindliness, resource consumption etc other than effectiveness)

i personally trust the combination of Avira + Threatfire + comodo firewall
all free, highly rated and do not consume to much resources

AVG is fine for me.

AVG. Cannot understand why people don't like it though.

AVG works ok for me

avast

AVG V8 is fine if you make 2 changes during and after install.

During install take the "advanced" install and deselect the "AVG toolbar" option (or whatever it is called).

AFTER the install turn off the "Link Scanner". This is the feature that checks every web site you visit to make sure it does not contain any viruses. Problem is if you do a Google search it checks every web site in your result set and can slow your browsing down.

If you make those two changes then AVG8 is just like AVG 7.

Avast - takes up little space; updated ca. every day; can run scans when used as a screensaver; takes up a lot less system resources than AVG.

Also use Comodo as my firewall.

Both excellent programs.
