    any advice for radar detectors?

    OK - so I have been caught speeding 4 times in the past 12 months. The result is 9 points on my licence and half a day at a speed awareness course.

    Honestly, i'm not reckless, just unfortunate and do a lot of miles. 35 in a 30 zone, 47 in a 40 zone... etc etc, you get the picture. Bloomin mobile cameras!

    Anyhoo, I can't afford any more points as it will be a ban, so i'm lookng to invest in a camera detector.. but there's so many to choose from. Can anybody recommend one, and let me know the best place to buy from?

    I have a tomtom, so am upgrading that to include a database of known locations (there used to be a free one available?) so am not too fussed about the gps ones... more interested in the actual detector to use in conjunction with my tomtom.

    Thanks in advance....

    My sympathies are with you, in part.

    I use TomTom with the latest Speed Camera database and get alerted whenever I'm near a camera. The result, no points in 3 years - YEA!!

    Easy Answer:
    SLOW DOWN

    30MPH = person survives
    35MPH = person DIES

    Absolutely - my TomTom "bongs" about 200 yards from a speed/traffic camera - plenty of time to double check i haven't "crept" over the speed limit.

    You do have to update your TomTom regularly though (incase they sneakily move the cameras!)

    it's very easy to creep over the speed limit, especially when you're looking at the road constantly instead of your speedo!

    If you can't keep a constant speed and watch the road at the same time you shouldn't have a licence.

    i seen a product called the laser park pro at a show last year... which scrambles radar signals for a given amount of time giving time to slow down to appropriate speeds.. they also help you park and avoid bumps and scratches :P Ebay usually has a few floating about but there not ovally cheap.. nor is a ban/fine.. hope this helps

    cant seem to see any of the park pro there today O_o perhaps snoopers worth looking into

    Maybe but 1st time you notice / or get caught you should be more careful.

    And sure get a detector to slow you down, they are safety cameras after all.
    I just know I wouldn't like to be the cause of accident causing someone else injuries or worse. :!:

    a mate of mine had a road angel and wow was that baby **** hot!!! loads of settings on it and lots of updates available too, my sympathies to you about the points mate, all too easy to creaap over when your watching the road and looking out for kids too.

    To speed so often that you've been caught 4 times in 12 months IS reckless behaviour, not 'unfortunate'. You can try to excuse it any way you want, but there's no excuse to be caught that much. Of course, now your only worry is to get something to warn you of the cameras so you can slow down before they catch you, not to actually curb your speeding. Try growing up and taking responsibility for your actions and think about the consequences for everyone else on the road or pavement!

    4 times in year is a bit excessive really you need to steady your manner of driving now.

    try this, from £69 and downloadable updates

    Best thing, TRY to concentrate on your speed. It helped me. :thumbsup:

    I drive 40,000 miles a year NO points on my license in 19 years. ;-)

    If you go for a camera detector, the thing is, it may only save you if the car in front is checked, if you are targeted, you will not be able to respond in time.

    or if you must beatthespeedtrap.co.uk/

    Sell your car and get a pushbike before you kill someone. 30 and 40mph are the speed limits in built up areas for a reason, usually because there are kids/schools about. I am fed up picking up pieces of children who have been run over (literally) by people speeding like you.
    It is a poor excuse people use when they say they are concentrating on their speedo and not the road. If you see a sign on a lamppost that says there may be speed cameras (white background with a camera in black) you will eventually get caught if you are not over the limit. The camera will see you before you see it. They run on lasers which is the speed of light, much quicker than your eyesight.

    My car says I'm going 10% faster than I am actually going at, at 30mph. So do most cars.
    So, if you were found to be going 35 in a 30 zone, or 47 in a 40 zone then your speedo was probably saying 39 and 52 respectively which is rather less easy to miss...

    The police can;t (or won't) do anything if your actual speed is within 10%, so this allows for laziness as most cars have the 10% over @ 30mph, you have to be thinking you're going over 36/37 before they will do anything.

    35 doesn't get you points only an option of a talk OR points too
