Any advice on a laptop for a 10 and 12yo? Budget around £250

Have tried to keep an eye out for a good laptop deal recently but unfortunately been unable to find one and wondered if anyone could point me in the right direction?

I actually need two laptops for my sons (both will be the same so if in different colours always a bonus).

I have a budget of around £250 for each laptop. They will be used mainly for browsing, youtube and minecraft so it's important it can handle this at a decent speed.

My son is currently using an Aspire ES1-512 (intel celeron N240, 4gb Ram, 500gb HD) so I would ideally like something a bit faster than this is possible.

The best I've found so far is:

Is this worth the extra £50 to upgrade from the intel celeron N3350?

Any help greatly appreciated

I'd go for refurbished as long as in good condition. Have bought from Argos ebay before without any problems.

Oh that's okay then. I think you could get some good ones with an i5 or even i3 with 4GB/ more and a good internal gpu for not bad price on Ebay. I will look for you.

Hi ...i had same challenge but solved it by buying 11' HP stream (blue) from Argos £129.00 in recent sale... low memory but absolute perfect for homework and browsing. The minecraft problem is solved by buying a cheap kindle which keeps you in budget and allows you to buy a cheap printer (i got an epson at Tesco £29) plus memory card and stick for computer. Sainsbury even has proper HP cases for £8ish at moment. I decided that Laptop was for work and tablet was for fun. Lots of deals around - check around and good luck

But the op doesn't want a tablet or printer or he would have asked.

Thanks for the suggestion. My boys have minecraft on ps4 already and I have no idea why they want it on the laptop as well but they do! They already have the game (not sure if there are more things to do on the pc version over console, mods etc). I'd really like to just try and go for a laptop that can do both rather than get a tablet as well but thanks for the reply.

Is this better than the very deal? obviously with Very I can get a 10% discount but is the laptop better or much the same really?

Avoid celeron processors if possible as these are very poor. Almost always going to be worth upgrading to an i3 or 15.

Yeah that's definitely the way im going. It's about £252 for the Very ones or £279 for the tesco ones with the bag and mouse....

argos had an acer for around 179, well worth the money and more than capable

sorry but they are rubbish ... slow cpu, just 4gb ram and 1366 x 768!!!

I would suggest to check this out, bit better specs - still slow cpu (+/- as i3 in your link), but 8gb ram, 2TB HDD, FULL HD screen and R6 graphic is bit better than intel HD5500:

Reviews are not great, so judge by yourself.

p.s. one of first finds in google, so could be worth to look for more
