Hi all,

I'm looking at getting in shape for summer. Last year I used a product called creatine Cee powder but it tasted like battery acid. Can anyone recommend a product for me to use to get in shape. I would like to build muscle but also have an all over toned look.

I have been looking into Whey protein products but I'm unsure whats best!!

Thank you for your advice

 2. Protein

Thank you for the links!! Very useful information and I have printed out parts of both documents to use as a guideline

It's a tough decision to make as there are so so many different products to take.
Personally I'd look for how much protein the product will pack and go for one with low sugars and fat in them.
If you're just starting out, helps to a protein shake in straight after your workout.

Don't go to crazy on the weights to start off with, shed some fat off with some cardio. Should be enough time for the summer.

I'd lay off the creatine until you really get into it and then you can focus a little more on the weights as you'll be in a bit of a routine then.

Also remember rest is important, don't over do it, also no pain no gain, make it count.

Good luck.

Holland and Barrett are doing half price whey protein atm 12.49 down from 24.99

Not sure how good it is compared to bigger name brands etc

Actually if you are after Creatine I'd recommend BSN No Explode.
For me it works a treat, just remember to drink plenty of fluids and consume it on an empty stomach, or it will take a little longer to kick in.

i would go with my protein, it's cheaper and it has a higher % of protein per 100g of product (82% for mp V 73% for H&B) meaning you need less or get more for the same dose.

I've never been a fan of H&B products but thats pretty cheap. Don't know how its formulated though so I would look into it before purchasing.

I think I remember BG1 recommending this brand too. I reckon I'll try it myself one day.

yeah, MP seem popular on forums ive looked at, if you go to the mens health forums you will also be able to find a refferal code which will get you 5% off your first order i think, you wont have to look hard, some people have it in their signature

they also do an isolate which is lower in carbs and fat, but to be honest the protein is so low in these i dont think its worth the extra cost.

Wasn't paying attention and just seen exactly what DDTTAA was saying. I would 100% try out myprotein over H&B, and the fact its cheaper becomes a no-brainer for me. My 2 cents.

OP, are you in shape and trying to build muscle or trying to lose weight? im using whey protein mainly for weight loss but to also build muscle. if you're already in shape and purely want to build muscle then creatine may be the better choice.

as for the taste, i remember taking creatine back in 1998 before it was a huge thing and the product then was like sand and you couldnt take it with caffine, milk or citrus products or anything hot, which essentially means you were drinking a glass of sandy water. bloody horrible.

anyway, here are a few articles people may find interesting about whey protein

Thank you for all the links. I'm not over weight but ideally would like to gain muscle & tone the upper body. Would you advise my protein 82% or something else for what I'm trying to achieve?

I would like to see fast results but would prefer to not gain too much weight if possible

for fast(er) results you may want to use both.

creatine does nothing more than assist the muscle during anaerobic respiration when you're pushing hard, you will be able to push harder and recover faster. when you tear the muscle the whey protein will help repair the muscle buy supplying the building blocks.

creating for tearing, whey for repairing.

as im sure you know though, you really need to be pushing it otherwise they will be no need for either of them

have you tried the standard mixture too? did you notice any significant difference?

GET YOUR PROTEIN FROM MYPROTEIN.COM

(serious)

It's good stuff and tastes decent with milk or water.

Not that I'm an expert on this or anything, but I recently purchased a 2.2KG tub of P.H.D Nutrition and honestly, it's got some amazing taste. Most people I know that drink protein supplements usually have to mix it with milk, but I can honestly say that the taste on this PHD Whey tastes good just with water.

I can whole-heartedly recommend it. But, how you use it is also key. For me, I use it after a really intense workout at the gym. I don't drink it everyday.

Now regarding the cost... if you purchase the tub from phd-supplements.com, they charge about £50 for the tub. But, look on ebay, and you'll find the tub for about £30. And each tub gives approximately 90 servings with each serving providing about 20grams of protein.
