Stay up late tonight, sleep through the day tomorrow and go to work.

    Have fun!

my partner works nights and he works 5 to 5, he comes home and goes straight to bed if he is tired, if he is not tired then he stays up for an hour and then goes to bed after having something to eat.

As for getting up i normally get him up about 1 or 2ish depending on what time he went to bed as he starts work at 5. has something to eat before he goes and then eats later on at work.

Advice for your days off stay up as late as you can and then go to bed about 2ish and then get up nearer dinner time to keep in to the shift pattern if your going to be constantly on nites

it will take time to adjust to nights and your body will adjust in its own time as well

Sleep when you get in, try & make your bedroom as dark as possible if your a light sleeper make sure you won't get disturbed, when I work nights it's usually until about 4-5am & I go straight to bed when I get home & get up about 12:30

When I did them (for many years) I found the longer I left it before going to bed, the harder it was to sleep. I used to get in, shower, then straight to bed. I used soft ear plugs which cuts out distant noise and a blackout blind at the window. In the summer when it was hot keep windows closed so the bedroom stays cool. I got my best sleep when doing nights. I'm sure people find their own routine.

Have an hour or so 5 ish before the first night shift and hope you can sleep in the day, i find it very hard to sleep .good luck

3.oclock will be the killer i used to work 4 days on 4 days off and the last 2 were nights all 12 hour shifts did it for 18 years it's a killer took 2 months to get back to normal sleeping pattern when i was fired due to my disability

Years ago, when I worked nights, I used to have trouble sleeping and found travel eye masks worked great! Also try and get your days off back to back or you wont feel like youve had a day off (as you'll be sleeping through one of them!)

Pretty much exactly what I was going to say, I think that's as much as you can do although everyone is different - some people I know go home, have breakfast and then go to bed but I find if you leave it too long it's hard to get a proper sleep.

Thought it was illegal to sack someone for being disabled?

On the original topic though i just had the worst nights sleep. Went from nights onto days with 1.5 days off in between. Happens every couple of months though when my roster changes.

Also if you find your room is too light, by curtains that shut out all light.

Commonly held belief but oh so wrong in practice.

OP, take a pillow with you and your favourite childhood teddy bear ....you'll sleep like a log
