any car audio experts out there???

ok now i have helped a couple of people out with computer problems / techy advice now its my turn to look like uh huh if you say so

ive got a new car with a JVC headunit with two front speakers (10W each) and two rear RipSpeed speakers (80w each) now when i turn on the unit i get no more than a minute of audio before the headunit light (greeny colour dims and brightons with the beat) then gone and it restarts and keeps doing so so i turn down and a couple of mins later same thing ...... how ever if i go for like 5 mins with it off it stays on at loud? also if i wack it it turns back on (turns off again but turns on ;-) )

any suggestions on what the problem may be??? and / or how to fix as it is F***ing annoying as it always does it on a gd bit of the song!

    thanks VERY MUCH in advance

I assume it's got a removable front?, If so it could either not be on properly, Or not connecting at the points, Try removing and check the points, Check that none of the clips etc are damaged.

It might be a dodgy wire, Check those and make sure their not loose.

    It could be faulty.

checked the wires and now the headunit and it appears to be better but i didnt move it just started the engine now it will go up to vold 18 before cutting out which is MORE than enough whilst driving! thanks for that didnt think of the faceplate

Bad wiring or wrong speakers at front 10w seems too low so maybe MosFet circuit cutting out

What's the size of the battery, alternator (current) and engine? ;-)

does the stereo have 4 channels or are you running all 4 off 2 channels?

if you turn the head lights on do they dim as well?

Have you tried just using the rear speakers (set the fader to rear only) - does it work okay then or still cut out?

so it's not even a litre engine :whistling: though you say the lights aren't dimming when the stereo is on, so rules that problem out then.

Sounds like there's a crossed connection somewhere, who fitted the wiring? I'd first check behind the stereo.
