Any car or locksmith experts out there?

To cut a very long and boring story short - I wish to replace the door/ignition locks on my Xsara Picasso with a new set. At the moment, I have separate keys for ignition and doors and no working remote. So I want one key which does the lot.

If I buy a lock set including ECU such as eBay item 180602444987 - is it just a case of swapping my existing locks/ignition barrel/ECU with the ones provided? Should the key provided with the set already be programmed or will there need to be re-programming to do?

Obviously don't want to attempt this if I am then left with a car that won't start until Citroen re-programme the thing.

Any ideas? Is this a stupid idea & should I just deal with the crappy setup I already have.

Could just replace it with remote central locking like item no 200580961107 or similar. Then you will only need the key for the ignition.

Hmm don't fancy that. Reading up on ECUs, I'm a bit nervous about what effects sticking in another used ECU could do. It would probably work with the locks, etc, that its provided with as it is for the exact same model car. But there's no saying what else it may effect.

Citroen have quoted over £400 to do this properly via them :-o Wonder if anywhere else would do a complete lock-set change and re-programme cheaper (including some sort of warranty I suppose).

I'd look up auto electrician's in your local area and get a few quotes, They'll know exactly what needs doing.

I might be wrong but other thing's may be coded to the ecu's, Not sure.

Would it be an auto-electrician I need or an auto-locksmith? Is there such thing as locksmiths who specialise in vehicles?

Does your car have a factory fitted immobiliser?

as your existing key will be coded to that also

Yep - so any new key would deffo need re-coding, even with an ECU change? Can that be done anywhere except Citroen (assuming I have the key code)?

There are some auto electronic companies that do it.
