Any cheap way of resolving the RROD issue on xbox 360?

Ok, apologies if I'm clogging up your misc section on a Friday night, but my brother has just introduced me to HUKD and I find it amazing. Basically I was moving my my xbox back to Uni, and didn't bother wrapping it up correctly and must have bashed it, as soon as I turned it on the dreaded RROD lights showed up. After finding this out, I went onto ebay and tried the towel trick that worked for 2 weeks, but now its the red lights have come back on and I've read that doing the towel trick more than once can damage your console.

    Any tips or advice guys?

    Thanks.

yeah it does if you do it more than once - youtube fixing red ring of death and you will find lots of detailed walkthrough videos that will help//

purchase an xclamp fix kit off the other site & give it a go. pretty easy to fix providing you take your time.

Three year warranty, check on the xbox.com website.

give microsoft a shout, you might be lucky to get it fixed

I had RROD and thought mine was a goner. After a bit of research I found out that the RROD can be caused by plugging in to an extension lead rather than plugging it directly in to a wall socket. Something to do with the power it draws I think. Anyway, gave it a try using a wall socket, and it has been fine ever since. (6 months +). Sounds like a simple thing but it worked for me

You can get RROD clamp fix kits from fleabay for around a fiver, never done it myself but judgeing by the feedback they work fine.

Depending on your technical ability you can get an x clamp fix kit like the guys above have said. You'll need two torx bits too to take the xbox apart (torx 8 & 10 I think). Videos on YouTube explain how it's done. You could try overheating the GPU first though, this involves opening the xbox and placing the cooling fan over the CPU heatsink, thus removing cooling to the GPU. That's also on YouTube. Hope that helps.

You can buy a kit that includes the lot, torx drivers, thermal paste, cleaner and all the screws and washers you'll need.
