Any decent broadband deals for a SLOW line?

I need to get broadband on a line which will only support up to 1mb. Are there any good deals or companies who specialise in low cost, low speed solutions?

I cant find any, and dont really want to pay for 8mb+ when ill probably end up realistically get 512kb!

    All help appreciated!

EDIT: Does anyone with experience of its use think a mobile broadband dongle would be a better option? Any bargain on these?

Overall i'll prob need approx 10-15gb per month

4km?! :w00t: You may as well be on Mars.....

You are further away from the exchange than by brother's farm and he lives on a hill, in the middle of nowhere (Cornwall).

It would appear that only std. BT ADSL service is available in your area (]linky).

Which in turn means that the cheapest service will likely be Tiscali (PUKE!), unless you have a pay monthly mobile phone contract and can convince them to do a price match with their own LLU service (LLU is where the Internet provider has their own equipment installed in the phone exchange, bypassing BT. Which allows them to offer more competitive prices).

Impressive. My brother gets about 2Mbit/sec, when it is not windy.

Oh im not sure what to do now!

Im thinking perhaps a mobile broadband deal may be a better option, as it could also be used elsewhere and would likely give better speeds.

Time to check coverage and tariffs......

if you want speed then get the best adsl you can and get the mobile boradband and build a load balancing router in linux and combine the connections. (or you can do the same with a second phone line)

if you haven't had adsl at that location before tho, then you might get a better connection than you think, go with a small, decent company who will provide genuine support, get a good router, make sure your bell wire is detached, plug in as close as you can to the master socket etc. sandly there's no LLU at all at your exchange so no hope of ADSL2

Have you spoken to your neighbours? What speeds do they get from their broadband connections?

Do me a favour an get your Cornish colleagues to bury some proper phone cables in the ground.
That [CENSORED] dangling from the wooden phone masts just isn't doing the job.
My brother looses sync ones a week (at least) and when it's windy (read stormy) the Internet dies outright. :x

I'm 4km away as well with 51db loss and sync at 3.5. Sadly I'm not an Openreach engineer

Maybe OP should try the ringwire method and get himself a router that lets them adjust the SNR Margin?

Thanks for all the input guys.

I went for plusnet in the end - they were the cheapest at £5.99 for 3 months, then £11.99, with £36 quidco.

Capped at 10gb usage, but im not so sure id need much more as wont be downloading/streaming films etc.
