    Any Electricians in the house???

I'm currently having problems with my dishwasher.. When I turn it on the trip switch on my electrical box trips all the sockets. I have changed the fuse on the plug and checked the wiring and all is good. The dishwasher is a hotpoint and just outside it's 12mth warranty. Sometimes if I leave it for an hour it will finish the cycle. Any ideas would be appreciated. Rep will also be added to the helpful answers.

    Cheers

if my dad was in i would get him for you

could ask him in a bit for you if you like?

have you cleaned it out they may be food and debris clogging it also try the other cycles because it could be something to do with that particular cycle like a chip gone on the circuit board. Also you can get the dishwasher cleaner, it does work and pays to do this every once in awhile
just realied you said it was tripping off the electric , try plugging it into another socket as well (after cleaning it out)

Sounds like there is a short somewhere. Check that the cable is not damaged and exposed. (I'm no electrician, but had my share of household disasters). Good luck.

Get an engineer out. If it's tripping the lot rather than the MCB to the circuit its on then it may may an earth fault etc.

    Cheers mate, much appreciated

phone the manufacturer and claim under SOGA as not fit for purpose. it should last longer than 12 months. probably overheating and overloading the circuit.

Yeah that as well:thumbsup: It should last for 'a reasonable amount of time' before packing up. 12 months doesn't cut it really imho.

That'll definitely do it if it's tripping the RCD.

Are you running other appliances at the same time? It may be that the total power you are consuming in the kitchen is tripping the switch, just the dishwasher uses most so you notice it when you turn it on.

Try turning off other electrical goods while you have your dishwasher on.

In my old house I couldn't put the kettle on while I had the washing machine and tumble dryer going.

That house used fusewire too so was a pain in the bum.

I had looked at that possibility and had ensured that all the power to everything was turned off at their switches. It still tripped. I occasionally got the odd full cycle without tripping, but now it has got progressively worse..

its possibly switch or it could be that the cable from heater elelment has rubbed onto metalwork and is shorting that happened to a friends condenser hotpoint dryer.when the guy fitted new element he trapped the wire and burnt out the new heater.so he ended up putting another one in and wrapped the cable with insulation tape

If it trips the RCD on the main board then it's likely to be either a short cct between conductors due to cable damage or water ingress at the switch you mentioned. Also check wiring is screwed down tightly at terminals.

The key document is the "Sale of Goods Act 1979 as amended"

For the purposes of this Act, the quality of goods includes their state and condition and the following (among others) are in appropriate cases aspects of the quality of goods—

    (a) fitness for all the purposes for which goods of the kind in question are commonly supplied,
    (b) appearance and finish,
    (c) freedom from minor defects,
    (d) safety, and
    (e) durability.

The buyer may require the seller—

    (a) to repair the goods, or
    (b) to replace the goods.

    (2) If the buyer requires the seller to repair or replace the goods, the seller must—

    (a) repair or, as the case may be, replace the goods within a reasonable time but without causing significant inconvenience to the buyer;

    (b) bear any necessary costs incurred in doing so (including in particular the cost of any labour, materials or postage).

The Statute of limitations (I think) puts a time limit of 6 years on this liability. Obviously, you are going to get a repair rather than a replacement if the article is of a significant age. Also, someitems may not be expected to last six years, though I submit a dischwasher should last longer than 18 months.

Check out the Sale of Goods Act 1979 (As Amended) ]HERE

Remember: It's the responsibility of your supplier to put things right, NOT the manufacturer. The contract to buy was between you and the shop. NOT between you and the manufacturer.

Involve the CAB, Trading Standards etc., as neeed. There's also Which? Legal helpline (about a tenner for three months) who can help with advice and wording letters and the like.

Be prepared to dig your heels in and good luck.
