Any electricians on here? 2 gang 2 way double light switch wiring.

Found 1st Apr 2014
Just bought a new 2 gang 2 way switch to replace existing double light switch.

old switch

TOP ROW
L1 = YELLOW
L2 = BLUE
COMMON = RED
BOTTOM ROW
COMMON = RED
L1 = EMPTY
L2 = BLACK

NEW SWITCH is in two vertical blocks
first block =
TOP
2 way
1 way
BOTTOM
COMMON
second block =
TOP
2 way
1 way
BOTTOM
COMMON

Any ideas which colour goes with which new connection point?

Thanks

no offence, but i dont think it's worth taking someones advice on here for a job like that - if you're not sure what to do get an electrician in - you can do a lot of damage wiring it wrong. At least post on a D.I.Y forum instead, i wouldnt trust a lot of people on here to tell me what day it is

Agree in hindsight with the above..
But if you do it switch all off to be safe.

but for an electrician, its a simple job and i have wired many light switcges in the past. just that this one has an old colour scheme. will confirm garys advice elsewhere though. cheers

+1

Your reds are your feeds, so go into common terminals, black is a switch wire to a light, so goes into 1 way terminal, as there is not another switch for same light. The other cable has a yellow and blue(these are pass wires, which allow another switch to toggle the same light on and off), it doesn't matter which terminals these go into in terms of 1 way and 2 way, but follow garylane's advice and it will work just fine

Glad it worked for you, never seen a yellow wire in a home lighting circuit before (not that i would have as i'm no sparky).. still wouldnt have taken the chance on here myself though.

I know it's an old thread but could anyone help me with replacing a single gang 2 way light switch with a double gang 2 way switch?
