Any gas registered engineers out there?

    Need some advice.

Going to get a new combi boiler soon and wanted to get some quotes. I hear Worcester-Bosch and valliant are the best? Bit my father in law says glow worm boilers are just as
Good but cheaper and performance wise there is no difference?

Is this true? Or are the more expensive ones better and more reliable?

My existing one is 15 yrs old. But costs to much
Gas when heating up the water tank etc

I am gathering quotes now-its a nightmare. I am replacing my old combi. All the engineers are recommending Worcester Bosch then Valliant. Quotes have ranged from about £1500- £2600. Each one has different things mentioned i.e length of guarantee, different types of flush and filters.

What do u mean by an old boiler? with water storage tanks? which have the nasty habit of bursting or otherwise leaking and flooding the place?

lol, this happened to me, still out of my house since september, we came back from 2 week holiday in turkey at 2am and it was literally raining indoors, so now switched to a combi, not letting that happen again

Know what you're saying, but the potential damage has minimized at least for us, if a pipe should spring a leak, or a toilet overflow etc, we did have a tank in the loft, and a storage cylinder in the main bedroom cupboard, one year the bedroom cylinder tank needed replacing as it leaked and caused damage to the downstairs ceiling, that cost a fair bit to repair, then the following year the tank in the loft leaked and took out 3 ceilings and 40k worth of damage.. to me that isn't a cheaper solution.

Ah ok, so the 'boiler' we had before then was an abnormal one?

£2600???? for a basic change over?

Thats the range of quotes so far-how am I supposed to know which quote/work will be the least problematic in the future?

    Are Baxi boilers any good?

Just had a gas engineer recommend NOT to have a Worcester-Bosch or Valliant as you are just paying for the name. He has recommended a Baxi was gives same performance more reliable and at least £500 cheaper. Anyone have any experiences of using either of these?
