any laptop/ pc buffs out there ?, need help plz with power supply/cable

Found 12th Aug 2009
hiya , last week my power cable on my laptop toshiba satellite a210-1cd went dead .

i found a replacement charger ( a none brand ) on ebay and ordered it , it does charge my laptop but when i try to switch my laptop on ( with the power cord still plugged in ) it becomes slow and when i try to connect to the web it wont let me but if i unplug the charger fom the wall and my laptop works fine.

the guy on ebay listed it as compatible but when iv checked the only difference i can see between the charges is my old one says 19v = 3.95a and the new ones says 19v = 4.74a and only compatible with compaq and note book products?

is this differance causing the problem ? im really rubbish with pc

It's the wrong voltage and is probably damaging the PC I'm afraid.

it's spelt dudette but you'll have to send the charger back and it might not be worth your bother unless he offers to pay for postage so be nice and mention you're a chick, probably blonde and don't know any better

the new charger can deliver a higher current, this is not a problem as your laptop will only draw what it needs.
the voltage is the same....19v

Oh yeah, don't know why I thought the voltage was different.. It's the amperage that's different.

As Mark said, the power rating on this unit is OK - it will not kill your laptop.

Given the symptoms you mention - I would suspect the power supply (230V AC -> 19V DC) is leaking RF - i.e. causing significant amounts of interference. Unfortunately this is fairly common with no-name cheapo power supplies. This interference is probably what is killing your internet connection at your phone line and nothing to do with the computer being unable to "connect to the web".

i bought a universal charger that was interfering with my touchpad. i got in touch with the seller who sent a different charger and said the problem was 'differing shielding' to my old charger, whatever this is. anyway i know its a different problem to yours but the cause may still be the same? get back intouch with the seller and see what he says
