Any mechanics for some help please! :)

Hi all, I have a 1.25 fiesta and I usually get around 66/67 miles from £10 anyway, been resetting the clock recently and last week got 56 miles and today 31 from £10!!!
Could there be any big problem here?
I do the same journeys every day stopping and starting alot, however like I said I used to get 66, my driving hasn't been any different, ive checked my tyres...all fine! Any ideas? Thanks x

I would have said the rising cost of fuel but 31 miles is drastic...........take your car for a service.

Petrol going up so you get less petrol for £10 than you used to.

I thought so too, but as its been over the past few weeks the price hasn't changed too much fuel wise, will book it in, but I don't know if a service will even help. Thank you

It hasn't doubled though, as my fuel has been cut in half!

    31 miles from a tenner!

It needs more than a service.

My point entirely, I just don't understand why so suddenly, and what problems COULD it be?

Could be a faulty fuel gauge?

If not I have no idea, as I know nothing about cars

When did you last service it? Petrol increase does play a big part in it.

I guess the obvious things is a fuel leak. Try putting a sheet under the car at night and have a look the next morning, both under the engine and fuel tank. My wife's car recently had a problem with the brakes binding which increased fuel usuage, but you would probably be able to feel this if driving it.

My car is parked in the same place every day, and the road is clean every day, there is no smell of fuel anywhere and no binding of the brakes, drives perfectly, thanks for you help

    lol cheers

Just a thought but perhaps the pump at the garage was 'faulty'? Put another tenner in from another garage and see what you get

Well if you think logically you cant loose a gallon of petrol and if its been sudden and the car is running ok then it leaves few options. So either its leaked out or been stolen (gallon can, gallon missing) or its still there and the gauge or fuel sensor are faulty.

You should fill the car to the brim and then work out your average MPG after you've filled up again.

There is other options like hole in exhaust etc, I dont think it was stolen lol i wish the sensor was broken i really do, but it dont seem it! I could keep driving round the block till it runs fully out (its on the last tiny bar) and see how many more miles it gives me, just to knock on the head that the gauge is broke!

That doesn't even work, your maths is flawed. Petrol prices are rising fast so you'll get less miles per £10! Get it serviced, the oil needs changing every 6 months.

In fact I'm sure one of the single lads off here will happily service it for you, free of charge...well maybe you'll have to buy the oil as that's about £20-£30.

My maths is great thank you.

Maybe you should realize you don't need to be a maths genius to work out 31 miles from £10 is bad.

I genuinely wanted helpful advice about my car not criticism.

I will get it serviced definitely.
