Hi guys, hope you're all well!

Long story short, I'm planning on proposing to the missus (and no, I'm not asking whether or not I should get married in the first place :-)

I'm thinking of something quite low-key so was planning on whisking her away for the night to a nice hotel, bit of dinner, then popping the question there.

Basically, can any of you recommend a nice hotel from your experience? We live in Puckeridge, Hertfordshire but can travel (although preferably not into central London as the missus isn't keen).

I have a budget for £200 for the night but am looking for real quality.

Any suggestions would be great.

And yes, I know I can Google but I would love actual suggestions from people who have been to these places.

Cheers.

Novatel broad street. Birmingham and book direct for best price. Preferably in the standard room, I find them better. Easy by train if you don't want to drive.
Eat on the long boat cruising the cannel or red peppers at mailbox. Or The Palace Hotel
Esplanade Road,
Paignton. You can stay on site for food ect.

Bedruthan steps in Cornwall is fantastic and the sea view rooms are amazing

Adding if you had posted this yesterday then you could have booked novotel hotel around the country for £50 a night room only.

Have you tried the likes of booking.com or trivago rather than google? Fire in a few potential areas, get decent rates and plenty trusted reviews. I've used these things a few times and got rooms cheaper that going direct to the company/hotel which I thought was pretty decent. At the end of the day she won't care where you do it Good luck.

Missed that offer. Not that we are planning any trips. I like the blackout and extra internal door for sound proofing that novatel have. Hard to recommend a place as we all want something different. Quite means boring or run down in some locations I find?

Headland Hotel in Newquay. If you get the weather the views will be stunning. I went last year for 2 nights as took my girlfriend for our 2 years together (£250 per night) but unfortunately we didn't get that good weather. The beach is really nice and I got sea view and breakfast is included which is amazing! The spa is really good as well, small swimming pool, jacuzzi, steam room and sauna.

And if it doesn't work out..cross the road to the comedy club or walk down tge road to Spearmint Rhino

Spearmint Rhino...that would be a good place to propose!!

Although I've proposed a few things in there before now and ended up with a slap so maybe not

Hulton?

Hilton

Hotel Du Vin in Cambridge?

You can probably get a Champagne, meal package for about £200. Its the same chain as Malmaison.

Malmaison in Oxford is nice, something different, good location to walk around as well.

Also it's an old jail, and you may as well start getting used to it!

Broad Street, really - not the best place if she doesnt like the centre of London.

How about Stratford-upon-Avon, until you pick an area cant say about a hotel?
