Any plumbers here - blocked shower water pump

    Banned
Got a 2 year old shower pump

Grundfos / watermill PR50D - 1.5 Bar Regenerative Shower Pump

started making louder noises than usual a week ago but now just hums loudly but doesn't pump the water.

I suspected a blocked impeller so removed the pump and took the two side caps off and turned the impellers by hand. Re-fitted and still the same.

Should I have done more than just turning hand?

e.g. remove casing completely and check for obstructions.

    Filters are clear.

    Thanks.

they are expensive to replace, i used to work for a major plumbing supplier to the trade, i can give youdetails of them if you want so you can go direct, would be a lot cheaper

Take the caps off and see if the pump rotates when switched on. It may be an issue with the motor.

a bit difficult unless I want it spurting water everywhere. Water pressure starts the pump. ;-)

thanks but found it reasonably cheap on Ebay (£90 delivered)

plumber charged me £190 just for the pump when fitting 3 years ago! :x

might just bit the bullet and buy and replace as a plumber will charge me that just to stare at it for 5 minutes ;-)

Just wondering if I should try and fully dismantle it. Cant hurt I suppose if I'm gonna replace anyway.

It's not blocked, it's bust (motor). Going to be a replace I am afraid but it's a simple job due to them being pushfit fittings and easy wiring.

how can you be sure as it makes a noise like impeller is trying to turn and even cuts out when the thermostat overheats suggesting to me the motor is working. If the motor was broken, then I wouldnt have thought it would make any noise at all.

    Cheers

pumps will make the noise as if they are working even whe they are not, it does sound like you need to replace the unit, no point trying to mess around with it as once the motors gone, that's it
