Any recommendations for desktop PC - budget with monitor is max 1500quid

Hello,

Its been nearly 14 year since i built a PC / had a desktop.

Any recommendations/ things to be aware of (i.e stay away from this xyz) to get me started?

Not sure if the crypto premium has now gone from GPUs? Also is it generally still far cheaper to self build over prebuilt.

Thanks in advance!

There’s a video posted today by Linustechtips on YouTube for building a pc for $800. It’s a pretty good build.
You gonna have to post more details
Such as:
What will you use the PC for?
What resolution and frame rate are you aiming for?

If you go on Overclockers UK forums.. post there with your budget and above info.

You'll get a lot more help.

PCS forum is good for recommendations I got a pre-build from them for my family with good warranty and the forum members give solid advice! I only paid £119 more for the pre-built but think it’s worth it for the warranty and stuff.
Tbf i got a i9 9900k, nvidia rtx 2070, corsair h110 aio, 32gb, 1tb m.2, 1tb ssd, 34 inch ultrawide 1440p display for only £1400
As D3SI says, look at overclockers uk and forum. They do normal & custom builds...If it was me, I'd build it myself, done a few in past, it's not difficult - and you obviously know how to. Crypto is dead on gpu's now - I know, not worth it, but I made a few quid in past.

Self-built or custom-built from a retailer? Link?

Thanks.

CPU and PSU is overkill a bit. But they should last when you want to upgrade GPU 4 years down the line.

He should get a 2080ti. So it is fully 4k capable or wait for the 30 series. I have a 2070 super.

Well my intention was to use this to skip the launch phase of ps5/xbox series x as tbh i dont know which i would go for atm (depends on console exclusives and how many of these dont make it to pc)

Would i be better off waiting 6 months / until the launch of next gen?

I am in no desperate hurry at the moment as the games i intend to play are mainly single player games (cold waters etc) or a model which they will stay around forever (war thunder / eve online). Also got a stupid number of games on my ps4 "to play" list to go anyway (witcher 3, batman ak, mad max, deus ex, assasins creed origin, god of war etc)
Its best to wait and get a console.
Next gen consoles will be par with pc.

Not at all though? Not really comparable at all.

The ps5 will be faster than a i3, and agtx 1050 but won't be faster than a 3950x and dual 3080's that'll be out in September.

As i said, it's not a fair comparison.

Not a very good opinion if your suggest a 2080ti? £1500 budget for the full system and a monitor but including a 2080ti isn't really possible unless you want a ryzen 1600
Besides 4k is overrated, best to just get a super ultrawide 1440p.

You are talking out of your arse. The ps5 is comparable to 2070 super. How could you say it is comparable to 1050.

Consoles are used just for gaming, on a pc you can actually do more
I have a pc and i know that. That's why a console cost £500 and a pc 3 times more.

Wow i have a pc too, congrats!

You know teraflops is just a unit of throughput? Like a rx 480 has more teraflops than a 1060 yet the 1060 is a better card.

So you current rtx2070 super has the same theoretical teraflops ability as the ps5 in that case.

In September the 30xx series will be out which will be much better than the ps5 or new xbox spec sheet especially due to the 7nm process gains.

I really doubt the new xbox or PlayStation will beat a 9900k, 3080 system.

And again they are two completely different things and not even worth comparing because it's like comparing moto GP to formula 1, both can do the same job but one can do it so much better when built right.

You don't have to have that conversation because you don't really know what your on about. Also please tell us this 2080ti system with a decent monitor for under £1500? All new parts as well?

Besides the xbox and ps5 gpu's won't be far from off the shelf offerings from AMD, nvidia turned down the work because its low return.
All I am saying if you listen to someone like Jordan, you will be fed misinformation.
Can you first explain how the ps5 is comparable to a i3 and 1050.

I was saying how you can't compare the two, the guy is wanting a pc not a console, can you calm down?

I didn't say the ps5 is comparable to a 1050, i was saying that you can't compare a ps5 (fixed specs) to such w broad spectrum which is a PC.

You can't compare the two because they're two very different beasts and a PC has the ability to win everytime.

I don't think a ps5 can beat a 3950x and a 2080ti (or 3080ti in September)

You said that the next gen consoles would be on par with PC's, you can't compare it to such a broad spectrum.

Mohammed, please don't get upset because you can't grasp how to understand a basic conversation.

I feel sorry for your other half.

Yeah @Misly he's missing the point and upset because his argument is irrelevant.

Still waiting on his 2080ti build under £1500 with a monitor which is a balanced system. No way your doing that for £1500 new.
Did anyone ask OP what his budget even is?
The guy wanted advice on his new PC build.

@MRL263 enjoy your PC build mate and have fun. Even if you get a amd or intel cpu or a amd or nvidia gpu I'm sure you'll have fun.

September is the rumoured date of the 3000 series so it could ve worth just putting up with a older card like a 1070 until they are released.

£1500,
he'll get a decent build for that. And personally I'd get a slightly cheaper gpu to tie him over until September when the 3000 series is rumoured to be out.

Would highly recommend getting a ultrawide display 34" or if he's feeling fancy 49" ultrawide but he would have to increase his budget.

@MRL263 this build would be great for your needs, i definitely recommended a liquid cooler if that's the case your going with.

And maybe a fancier Samsung m.2? They appear frequently on deals.
