    Any runners on here?

    I've been running for a 10km run next sunday, but since thursday the arch of my left foot has been in serious pain. Haven't ran since, but it still hurts to walk. A google suggests it may be Plantar fasciitis. I've done a few 10km runs before, and nothing has changed - same shoes etc. Any chance it will have healed for me to run?

    Umm... no, sorry! If it is plantar fasciitis, it will take a long time to heal, if at all. Rest is the best treatment so running 10km doesn't sound a good idea! If you HAVE to run next Sunday, I wouldn't recommend doing any training until then to give it a chance to heal a little - then the pain may be bearable enough to run on, but you'll be doing yourself some damage.

    I'm not a runner, but I've had this & still have it albeit slightly less pain, just rest & painkillers, doesn't help as I'm on my feet all day, but its bearable,it hurts worse when I've actually rested it & got to stand up & walk !!! some youtube vids Plantar fasciitis

    self-diagnosis via the internet is probably not the best starting point, go to the doctor first ofall... and then listen to your body, pain exists for a reason, ignoring it is usually a mistake!

    Obvious advice here but have you considered visiting your GP for a quick examination? Probably best not to self diagnose when there is severe pain involved.

    Bend your toes up - if that brings on the pain, plantar fasciitis is the most likely cause. Just try to rest as much as possible - good luck!

    I self diagnosed mine via the net, but went to the doc's for a "second opinion" & he confirmed my diagnosis, but I agree with others though, get a professional opinion.

    Not sure where I go when I'm at uni. I'm back home for Easter on Friday, so if it's still painful come Wednesday/Thursday I'll be ringing home asking them to book me an appointment for the Friday (unless it gets worse in which case I'll just turn up at the nearest doctors).

    You should have a Health Centre or a nurse at the very least. Ask at Student Services, they'll point you in the right direction. (They usually give you this info during Freshers' Week - don't tell me you missed the induction because you were too busy drinking )

    I used to get this a lot when I did cross country - I used to be in agony for ages after a race. Foot 'ached' rather than a constant pain. Never got to the bottom of what it was, but get it nowadays when I cycle a lot. Hot bath seems to help.
