    Any tropical fish experts here?

We have a blue gourami which appears to be pregnant. Have just noticed this and she looks pretty fat.
What do we do? In the past when we've had pregnant mollys we have put them in the breeding tank. I've searched the net and it seems that they still need the male gourami even after the eggs have hatched.
Do we leave them in the big tank, move them to a breeding tank? We only have a small breeding tank that sits in our tank & we have 2 other gouramis, no idea which is the male.
What is our best chance of saving some of the babies?
We have a 190ltr tank if that helps.
    Thanks

i think you have to move them as they eat them
my dad had some gouramis a while back and they kept laying eggs and the males eat them
one way you can try and save the baby put alot of plant at the top floating and the bigger fish cant get them aswell.
    hope this helps

Try having a look on the forums ]here and I'm sure you'll be able to find some help, they've been helpful for me in a crisis!

    Good luck!

Thanks, will look there now. From searching it says they can lay up to 1000 eggs :w00t: Have looked at pictures and it seems both of the other ones are male, but our breeding tank isn't big enough for the 2 of them & the male is apparantly needed when the eggs are hatched. It's the female that needs to be moved away in case the male attacks her afterwards.

    Rep for you both

    Try this web site
    essortment.com/all…htm

tells you about the male making the bubblenest etc and you will need a bigger breeding tank.

If you need any more specific advice message me, To sex them look at the bottom long fin at the back, the males is pointed the females is rounded at the end.
I have a 220 litre tank with all different gouramis in and a few others and have kept fish for years. You will know i presume that gaurami's have to be able to get to the top of the water to get oxygen as they have a lung like labrinth organ so are different to other fish so make sure the breeding tank if in your main tank is not to deep. You will need to put in some clay plant pots or something like that as well.Good luck and i hope they don't eat all the eggs
