Pretty much as the title says guys,I bought a brand new Amazon echo from gumtree that wouldn't register when being setup, contacted Amazon who said it was registered as lost and therefore won't be able to set up.
I contacted the seller who later told me the one he sold me was one that Amazon had sent him that had been lost then later turned up.....luckily for me he refunded my money.
He has told me just to bin it but it seems a shame to bin what's essentially a brand new item
I'm just wondering if anyone has had a similar experience with the echo or if there is anything that can be done with it in its current state

sorted byYou might have been stung before but plainly I'm more intelligent than you,I picked this up from his house which was 10 minutes away from me....it doesn't work I go back to the same house....he goes to bank and gets cash to refund me.... simple really, not everyone on gumtree is a crook and I'm not a liar either!!
Wind your necks in, ever consider he might be telling the truth?
Can't answer your question though OP, hope you can sort something, but at least you got your money back if it doesn't work out!
I don't understand why he'd tell you to bin it when presumably you took it back to his house 10 minutes away, he just handed it back to you with the cash? was his bin full?
You can, yes, just the owner who is selling it must go into the Amazon web page, go to their devices and simply remove the device they want to pass to a new owner.
Never buy an Echo or Fire device if you can't confirm the original owner has done this. (edited)

The whole "selling of stolen goods" is quite a large part of what being a crook is all about...
You mean amazon are prohibiting this person from selling an item which belongs to amazon, not him? Bad form amazon.
can you help me please, how can i use amazon echo as a speaker if i can't connect to wifi?
how can i use like a BT speaker? or what use is for this echo?
Nice
How you normally have to ask it to pair
So? If it's relevant then no problem. If someone asks a question that was asked before hten often they'll get teh response of 'use search' by forum regulars.
but you dont open up old threads, it happens all of the time even 15 year old threads get reopened, you get half way down the thread and find its old and the issue does not exist for the Op any more. This one is similar shouldnt have been reopened a after a year and doesnt warrant being reopened after another 9 months either. It simply wastes time many of us are here to help but old threads just waste all of our time.
It's not re-opened. It's never been closed or locked. There is no need. It's sparked conversation between people. The OP might have moved on, but the questions and content are still relevant.
It doesn't waste anyones time, you chose to click into it, and read it, because you thought it was interesting. Posting saying not to post is perpetuating what you seem to dislike, and increasing the popularity of the thread.
Many people don't know about the need to unregister an Echo or Fire device, and this thread helps to provide that information. If someone else asked the same question today in a new thread then someone would say 'why didn't you just search for older threads?'
you have been part of the site for 12 years and only 2 deals and a couple of hundred comments, if you had been like others who spend far to much of their time on here and helping people, you would also find that opening old threads and reading pages sometimes to realise the thread was old and the comment no longer relevant to the poster is just a waste of time. We chose to click it to help people, get half way down reading the comments and realise we cant help anyone as the poster has not only been helped but in some cases left the site years ago.
This one was answered a year ago so anyone who sees it can simply read and understand the issue.
Sadly the site wont lock old threads like most other forums do and regulars have pushed for this because we waste so much time. Most posters wont say search old threads, if a new poster posts a new question people always answer even if the question is a simple one.
Ive posted other deals; you can only se the ones that have not been removed. For some reason HUKD admins decided to start preventing deals being posted from most ebay sellers, unless specifically approved; or when it suits the admins, and many of the deals I find therefore get sent to a black hole. There is an extensive thread of annoyed people on the topic, and last time I looked there was a fabled white list of ebay sellers, that had not been published years after being started.
As far as I can tell you aren't an admin, just a user; same as me. Sure, you've posted a lot more, and commend you on how many deals you've posted, but not all users find deals to post, and many users never post any deals.
Also, that has pretty much no relevance anyway, there is no reason to suggest someone should not take part in a conversation on a forum, especially when the topic is still relevant today. This thread is not something I searched for; it simply showed up on the main page; it must have had enough activity to have been considered of value. Locking old threads is an infuriating thing on some forums, because it prevents you from going back and re-igniting a conversation which may be relevant or have data, and instead you have to create a new one, fragmenting data.
So far you have given no compelling reason to why someone should not comment on older threads. You can see when reading the thread that it's not recent, if you only want to read new threads then you could check the dates on the threads before investing time; that is your choice; however doing so could mean you miss out on past threads which maybe did not seem to be have value, and now do.
You're not an admin as far as I can tell, and as far as I can tell should not be telling people to simply not use the platform in a way it is designed to be used; for conversation. If HUKD felt it was a problem they'd clearly start to lock old threads.
Great long post, my point is if you post 17 comments a year you aren’t using the site like others who want to help daily 365 days a year. When you have and wasted time you to will be sick of seeing old posts reopened for now reason at all. And no I am not an admin and also not the only one who gets sick of old posts.
