Run it through a file recovery program

Depends what's broken.

Time to take a closer look me thinks.

My pen drive messed up on me earlier this year & I managed to get some of it back using a file recovery programme. I can't remember which one though.

I lost some of my assignments and had to do them all over again

Good luck!

You've probably broke a connection, if so it's just a simple soldering job

Finally a sensible answer. Take the plastic casing off and check the circuit board. I expect you have broken some of the connections between the USB plug and the pcb.

having just got the casing of it, it looks like a oad of the pins have come away from the smal black square the front of it

Usually it's one of the 4 connections of the actual port that break

See ]here

If the pins are broken around the black bit there probably isn't much you can do unless your an expert at soldering

As a very last resort to try and recover the files if your that desperate......and you don't want to attempt the soldering .........with it out the the casing plug the USB into your PC and slowly bend the circuit board back until the pins on the chip look like they make contact and see if XP recognises the device.

But bear in mind this is at risk of actually snapping the board or even doing some damage to your PC as there's +5 Volt power going thru the USB circuit.

A photo of the damage would help us too !!

Nice try:thumbsup: But you cant see his secret stash of pron just by removing the casing, its digital data dont you know:whistling::whistling::whistling:
