Hi all,
Looking to get my site re-designed. Anyone recommend what is the best format to go with?
Will be selling a few items, so small ecommerce site. I want it custom designed, not a template. What is the correct name (programme) for "custom sites" please?

I can help with logos, posters etc. if you need help.

I currently have a logo. I will send you it, if you want to have a look at re-designing it? To be honest, I think I will be keeping it, but I would be interested to see your take on it, if you want to dabble for free?

Then expect to pay a small fortune! Unless you mean you want an e-commerce package tweaked? I expect that's what you meant...... but if not, you're being unrealistic as you'd be looking at thousands of man hours to do an e-commerce site from scratch.

OK, I did think you didnt really mean what you'd said!

I'd suggest using an e-commerce package that you can amend its appearance using your own images and probably someone elses's amended template. Apart from major sites, most are simply packages that have been customised. That's what you referred. As I said, I did think that was what you meant!

I have used ZenCart and CS-Cart. I liked the latter, but isnt free. (Zen is)

Just have a delve through these:

I've not done a shop for a while, so bit out touch on whats free and whats not.

If you think free sites can do it all for you then don't you think we'd be out of a job

Umm - this is not a free site, you sign up, pay £20 per month and you get your own WYSIWIG editor which is web based, and easy to use. I would love these sites to put some web designers out of business, the ones I have worked with are nothing but con artists.

Designers tend to put a lot more hours in than you expect, and for that reason cost much more than bargain sites...but on the other hand if you want something that makes you and your products look cheap diy it.

If your gonna use a designer pay a qualified one with a good portfolio...you wouldnt pay some bloke from down the road to build your house just because he has built a wall and laid a patio , so dont do it with your site...if you want a good job pay for a proffesional and to find a good proffesional it will show in their portfolio.

Cheap sites are a turn off, music, too much flash, high res photos, logo half the size of the page, and a 25 paragraph all about you section etc, are a big turn off.

Rather than thinking about what you want on the site start with

thinking who you want to visit the site...

How will you target them best?
When they arrive what are they looking for website/info/page wise?
What is the best way to guide them to/show/sell your product

I know this is a bargain site...designers do this for a living, so please dont take advantage,
it annoys me when people say oh but your work could be on my site (like your doing them a favour) it happens a lot
