I have just read that you can add insulating paint to normal paint to increase the thermal retention of your walls, anybody heard of this please

I haven't but it reminded me of when we stripped all the wall paper off the walls in my nans house, the walls were coverd in aluminum paint, as it was my granddads answer for everything

Sass, you find the most obscure things to talk about

    Some info here : thermilate.com/abo…tml

I have tried this numerous times and it hasnt helped:oops:

    too late for april fool

It comes in a lovely shade of tartan apparently :whistling:

I worked in the paint industry for a good few years and never came across this. The only thing i can think of is cellar paint which can be used where surfaces are prone to damp or damp proof paint which is a similar sort of thing.

it is a mixture you add to your paint and it supposed to reflect the heat back into the room, may give it a try in one of the rooms

no its cold, especially the back of the house, and i have cavity wall insulation and good loft insualtion, just looking for ideas and stumbled across this

Have you put tin foil behind your rads and that can help, might be worth trying this paint but as i say can't see it making that much difference. If you have good insulation and double glazing then it shouldn't be that cold.:)

oh tell me about it, good insulation, double glazing, loft insulation and a back biler that has a nice big air vent in the lounge, - lol so that doesnt hep, but the back of the house doesnt really get any sunlight and are always cold, so when i found this i thought i may give it a try on one room

Maybe your boiler isnt performing properly?do your rads heat up properly?and has your boiler been serviced recently?lol lots of questions just trying to help:)

it is very insufficient (if thats the right word) rads heat up fine, but ecause of the big air vent in lounge the downstairs doesnt really get warm, yes its serviced every year

    lmao - not yet:p

Sassie, you do realise that to KEEP a room warm it has to actually be warm in the first place ;-)

Tbh, if I were you i'd hold go round the room with a lit candle (chanting obviously) and see if you can find any draughts you can plug up. Double glazing is a ******* for that as there are often leaks on the seals.

Yep those air vent thingmebobs aren't the best i don't think, would be better off with just rads down stairs i would of thought. Not sure what you can do really as you have most things covered, but i know several people that had these warm air vents and they all say it feels cold.

Its a real pain when a house is poorly insulated. My previous was a Bungalow and was as cold as hell. (Odd thing to say I know!!!!!!) My current house is quite warm even in winter without the heating on. (Its currently now off until next winter!)

We did just get cavity walls and better loft insulation done. Havent noticed any difference - apart from the youngest's bedroom, which is the coldest in the house and least sunlight.

I know that doesn't help in the slightest to solve the problem BTW - but this issue does seem mostly to do with the original fabric construction of the house.

Might be an idea to ask the people who did your insulation why it isn't working! (Seems you have a valid argument!)

yeah the draught is being caused by the air vent, but the coldness to the back of the house is being cause by no sunlight and also the draft from lounge, the upstairs gets hot but i cannot get the downstairs warm, due to the draft of the air vent, i have had two heating engineers in and they have both said it wont get warm because of the air vent, and they say my bills are high due to the heaing never clicking off because it never gets warm nough, so cant win, so just looking at other avenues

She was taking about a big air vent in the lounge! Not sure what that could be though!

Is there no way of having the vent taken out and being replaced by rads?wouldn't think it would be that expensive and in the long run would save a packet on heating bills.

i would if could find out who did it, have rung every possible person i can think of, they say i should have the certicate, and i dont, the house was council beofre so phoned them but now housing association and they have no paperwork for the house, warmfront just sent someone in who said i have it and thats it, wont do nothing else, as you know i cant get a grant with help towards new boiler because noone will condemn the old, so when i came across this paint thought it was worth an ask, one thing you could ever say about me is i give up easily - lol

i cannot have it removed as its in the room with the back boiler, there is a rad in each room

Well fair play to you for trying:thumbsup: Only hope is the lottery lol

I was supposed to get a certificate when I had mine done (about 6 weeks ago) - I'll have to chase that up - I never got one! Sounds like it might be needed at some point!

I knwo i was never given one, but i know the law changed some years ago (probably after mine was done) that you now have to be given a cert and thats needed when you sell your house

OK Ta. Will chase up. Mind you - its pretty obvious by looking at the filled hole marks all around the house!

Will probably need it sooner though. Gonna convert the integral garage this year to living space - and I know that the insulation is the prime thing they look at in the building regs application.
