    Hi everyone!
Me and my partner are thinking of getting married next March in Cuba. Has anyone on here been married or been on holiday there? If so where did you go?
    Many thanks!

Dont have any helpful advice, just wanted to say i have seen some of the lovely pics and info about weddings in Cuba you can see online. It looks gorgeous. Hope you have a lovely service xx

I had some friends that went there on holidays and they said that they end up giving everything they had with them away to people there. The poverty was so bad and they could not resist not to.

The tourist areas are very good but if you go into the real thing you are probably in for a massive shock.

The weather and the beaches as the caribbean weather must be lovely but just be warned about the true side of thing.

Best of luck I hope you have a wonderful wedding.

I've been to Cuba a few times now and (not including the time I unsuccesfully attempted to claim political asylum) I've loved it every time, the people are very, very friendly, outside of Havana there's zero crime. The weather is fantastic, though i'd avoid hurricane season for a wedding!

They're very dependant on the income tourism brings but everyone in Cuba gets free heath care and university, it's unlikely you'll bump into someone unable to speak fluently in 4 or 5 different lanuages.

I'm not certain on the Law regarding marriage though? It may not be recognised by the UK government.

    political asylum?? lol

Havn't got married myself there but have seen plenty on weddings at specific places, both on the cayo coco islands and in varadero.

The weather and cost are the main advantages.
Not very personal, possible bad weather, lots of nosey people etc are the disadvantages plus more

    All the best.

i used to organise wedding and honeymoons to malaysia and would defo recommend PANGKOR LAUT

    Thanks very much everyone!
Yeh ive heard about the poverty, apparently its good to take plenty of soap, shampoo and chocolate over to give as gifts to the maids because they find it really hard to get.
Its in the Thomas Cook brochure so I think it must be, well you need a birth certificate and your passport. We did look at the Maldives first but you can only get your marriage renewed there, then we looked at the Dominican Republic but the amount of paperwork needed was unbelievable. Then it all had to be translated into Spanish and legalised which would have cost at least another £1200. So now were on to Cuba, fingers crossed this works out lol

Were hoping to go in March, the usual temperature then is 29 degrees c, with an average of 5cm of rainfall and 7 hours of sunshine.
I thought the hurricaine season was late summer... not really looked into it so may be totally wrong there lol

hurricane season starts in april and ends november. you *should* be fine in march as hurricanes only occur when the water temperature rises. there hasnt been any hurricane activity yet this year.. theres a weather link here...

Hurricane season is August - Sept (ish) and (if you're not getting married) can be quite spectacular to see, I've been cut off in feet of water that fell in a matter of minutes during an electrical storm... get's the heart pounding I can promise you!

Toiletries are fully available and not that much more expensive than we would normally pay but the cuban dollar is a very weak and largely untraded currency, I'd recommend taking some of those little travel bottles with you to leave as gifts for the maid.

I got married in Manhattan last year - that wasn't an expensive as you might think compared to the cost of a UK wedding. We had a party for those that couldnlt come once we got back.

I been a few times to Cuba at Christmas time.
As has been said before the people are very friendly and away from Havana zero crime you can go anywhere without fear.
The main tourist hotels are round Holguin and Varadero I can certainly recommend Playa Pesquero Holguin it is just round the bay from the dolphin sanctuary where you came swim with the dolphins. I wouldn't go for the cheaper hotels it certainly pays in the long run to go to a 4/5 star.

My friend recently been to USA and he said there are a lot of stories on the news regarding Mexico & cuba with people disappearing from gated communties (hotel resorts) and being robbed and shot!

I hope its not all that bad!

Parts of Mexico are Bandito country - you're more likely to get kidnapped in the UK than Cuba!

EDIT : Worth remembering that US is still officially at war with Cuba and likely to indulge in propaganda. I always have fun getting into the US as I have Cuban and Arabic stamps in my passport...

Yeh the one were looking at is classed as a 5* but looking at reviews seems more 4* which is still perfect for us.
Were going with a group of 13 adults, 2 children and 2 infants (all family) so were really looking forward to a big family holiday/wedding. Seems to make more sense money wise as its around the same price as here but we all get a 2 week holiday at the same time. Were going to have a reception when we get home for our parents friends/cousins/friends etc.
Ill definately research what the maids and hotel stuff really appreciate you giving them and take plenty with me,
    thanks everyone x

That may be because there is along standing feud between Cuba and the USA (after the Cuban Missile Crisis). The USA does a lot through the media to down cry Cuba but I will definately research that before we book anything, thanks

we came back from the states friday. lots of advice being given out there to stay within the touristy areas in cuba. just common sense stuff like you'd be careful when anywhere. i often think how the news over exaggerates just to make a story applicable to millions rather than just a more isolated incident.

Haha, knowing how paranoid they are im surprised they let you in!!

What I find unbelieveable is that Cuba (while being a under developed country and communist) still provides better health care for its people than the USA (one of, if not the, richest countries in the world!!)

And yet America still thinks they can **** Cuba off!

I rode a bike round Cuba a few years ago and met a lot of people along the way, I came across nothing but open arms and warm smiles but you'd do well be careful wherever you are and take the appriopiate risk.

Good advice whereever you are!

hate to say it as i love my hubby and i'm pretty attached now to the states and the way they do and look at things but they are pretty arrogant as a nation lol

similarly i went travelling with friends around the near east and northern africa when in my late teens and we were warned not to go off alone with anyone on a camel... like come on dude.. did i look like i was gonna?? lol

having said that when we hit egypt my long blonde hair apparently was the reason for an attempted kidnap which was fowled up by a large beetle crawling onto my foot and making me scream like hell making all my "captors" run away! u couldnt make this stuff up if you tried! made them give us an armed guard for the rest of the time we were there. now i'm a little older i'd probably appreciate the thought but back then it was just irritating lol

    Try this too... fco.gov.uk/en/…ba/

I always check here before I set off...

Hoping to go to Beirut next year, my wife is very patient with me...

we are going cuba in august looking forward to it and we went dom rep last august there were lots of wedding in dom rep while we was there (yes we were there when ike visited it was an experience) it is the only time we can go kids with school and oh work

have friends from dom rep. have noticed flights to there are cheaper than to jamaica or to barbados etc generally. jamaican friends told me to keep my white ass out of jamaica cos they'd automatically assume i was rich just because i was there! lol

we used to go canery islands every year but money wise it was cheaper to go all inclusive for two week i think it was £613.00 each person i agree it is cheaper for us five adults (three kid all over 12 so of course they are counted as adults)
