Anyone been to Chicago?

I'm off to Chicago in a couple of weeks so I'm looking for recommendations of good places to eat, fun things to see and do etc.

My hotel is on Michigan Avenue, so if anyone knows of anywhere nice within The Loop, let me know

I was there in 2000, so I doubt many places that I went are still there. But you must go to Navy Pier at least once if only to get some great pic's of the Chicago skyline...

Been there but it was a long time ago - and I did something like 20 cities in 2 months with a Delta unlimited standby pass. Can't remember anything about Chicago except that I had a great night in an 'Irish' bar. Where it was or what it is called I have no memory of. Met a lovely lady there though - I remember everything about her...

I went in 2000 in october. Bitterly cold and huge levels of snow everywhere so take warm winter clothing.

Sears tower was impressive but massive queues to get to the top (about 2 hours IIRC).

Downtown on a sunday is just eerie like a ghost town. Nobody walks anywhere!

I was in a holiday Inn and the receiptionist couldnt believe I didnt have a car. No sidewalks so had to run across the freeway to get to the shops!

i went there in april - absolutly fantastic, and your hotel is in a great position. dont worry about going to get a chicago town pizza they are horrible. definatly go up the sears tower (bloody high) and find the cheesecake factory at the bottom of the other tower (i forget its name). there is a pier for the sailors thats ok to go and have a look at, from there you can get a speedboat tour around chicago and then out onto lake michigan which is awesome!

Thanks for all your comments. I will definately have to go Navy Pier and the observation decks of the Sears Tower and John Hancock Centre (the other tower)

Still looking for recommendations for places to eat. I've been looking online and all the restraunts around my hotel (The Westin on Michigan Ave) look too pretentious for my liking

lol the westin is where I stayed!!!

Cheesecake factory is a nice restaurant, it doesnt just do cheesecake. Right underneath the westin is like a bar, but they do really nice food.

Cool I'll have to check out the Cheesecake Factory. Strange that a resturant called the Cheesecake Factory, doesn't actually serve cheesecake? (not that I'm a fan of it or anything)

What did you think of The Westin Hotel? From the look of the website etc it looks pretty nice

no, they do have cheesecake too, loads in fact!!

The westin is absolutly fantastic hotel, rooms are ok and comfy, service is good. i think the westin is right next to the cheesecake factory by the hancock tower. I stayed in two different hotels whilst I was there, so I was getting confused with the other one!!
