Anyone been to the British F1 Grand Prix at Silverstone? - Advice needed!

I am thinking about going to the British Grand Prix next year. Does anyone know where the best place on the circuit to get tickets is, where we would see the most action? Thanks!

I went 2 years ago, it was a fantastic experience, but I wouldn't go again.

The reason being, you see the cars for about 10 seconds per lap, the only time that you see them for longer is if you have a place watching a straight (not very interesting).

The T.V. screens are not much help either.

I am writing this as if you've not been to a Gran Prix race, which may not be the case.

On race day, it was a mystery what is happening, as you don't know who is winning, who's pitted, who has passed who.

In answer to your question, I honestly don't know, I sat at 'Farm'?

Take some earplugs, I listen to Rap music very loud, and even this didn't prepare me for my eardrums being tortured by a car revving at 19,000 revs.

    Thanks for the advice!

I love F1 but have never been to a grand prix before. saw the tickets for next years british gp are on sale now so was thining of going. i didnt expect you would be able to see much but thought it is something i should do once.

Undecided about whether to go now, cos its a lot of money if u dont get to see much. Sounds like it would be better watchin on tv.

Have you been to many grands prix? are there any european ones you would recommend? Spa in Belgium perhaps?

Sorry, I forgot that I posted this message.

I didn't mean to put you off, by all means go, it was a good experience, and I would advise anyone who likes F1 to go at least once.

It's just different to watching it on the T.V.

It's the only F1 race I have ever been to, I can't imagine that it would be any different at any other circuit with regards to following what's going on on the track.

I imagine people go for the atmosphere, I personally prefer to watch the stragegies work out(or not).

If you dont want to stump up for overpriced tickets then the next best thing is to go to one of the testing days. They are normally free entry although the last one (just before the last GP) was charged (£10) as that's normally the busiest and the biggest turn out in teams testing.

Try to get near the pits, you see a lot more. But if you are going go for the whole weekend, pitch a tent in the farmers field nearby loads go there and the crack at night is amazing. Last year we set up tent next to a group of lads that had their own marquee with a bar inside, as recompense for keeping us up all night they invited us to come and drink all night long with them. Sore head in the morning

What's the diffrence between taking crack at night as opposed to taking it during the day?

3-day pass to General Admission "Parabolika" for 66.03 quid for the german GP

or Sunday pass general admission £120.71 each for British GP.....

hmmm time for some fine German beer if you ask me...

but as the saint said its worth going, but you see move on TV at home, but that aint really the point :P

yes i dug this post up

Yep- me+ my dad only go to European GPs now (or 24 hours Le Mans) because you can get a full five days away for the price of Silverstone plus a hotel room. Best Silverstone advice is take a radio (as said before, you won't have a clue who's winning without one) and pay the extra for a Grandstand seat. A wet British GP would be a miserable couple of days.

OK OK.. We went last year for the whole weekend, and they've fixed the whole problem...

You have to get there on the Saturday at least, but they now do portable tv's that have live coverage from about 4/5 sources. So they cover in car and Directors choice and other vantage point for the GP. For practice it was fantastic, telling you splits and who is where, with full commentary.

It cost about £50 for the weekend, but I split this with a mate and had a headphone each..

Best of both worlds.. It was a great weekend..

why im confused with this new site as it is!!!!

anyway in answer to the question, dont get a seat buy a general admission and a centre pass

the centre pass is worth the extra money as you get to see much more without 20 fold of people stood in front of you

best place to stand is around becketts (imo) as you see more of the track. if you go early enough you can find a good spot judge this for yourself

as i say i wouldnt buy a seat, been to 3 british GPs without a seat and went to the italian with a seat - at the italian GP i had a seat on the pit straight, it was good watching the pit stops but boring as you didnt see much of the action/track - it cost me a damn fortune aswell !!!
