Anyone done an Access to HE course?

I'm interested in knowing what sort of level the work is at. I've looked at the college prospectus but really there is very little info in there. I've googled and found out that it's a level 3 diploma and there's a mix of level 2 and level 3 credits required to pass. There are core subjects which I think are maths and some sort of IT/study skills package and then you have options to add other subjects. What I want to know is the types of things we'll cover and how hard the maths will be. Is it like A Level maths?

First of all, access to what? Which access course do you want to study?

It's called Access to HE it's a general course that gives you a qualification that you can use in place of A Levels to go on to Higher Education. You do get some courses that are specifically science related or humanities etc but the core subjects are the same on all of them

If it's general, I wouldn't think it's that hard to be honest with ya. But in science access course, the core subjects are physics, chemistry, maths, biology and english. So unless the general access course has those 3 science subjects I don't think the core subjects are exactly the same. If maths is apart of the general access course and it's a level 3 course, you will see some As-A2 level mathematics.

argggh lol higher level maths. I was really hoping it would only be GCSE level. It's really hard trying to work exactly what the courses cover coz the prospectuses don't say much at all. I spoke to the admissions people and one college told me it was a general humanities one so the 2 core subjects plus psychology, sociology, history and english lit but she omitted to say what the core subjects were but I do think all of the access courses have maths, I guess the other one must be english. I thought I read somewhere that they all had IT as well. The other college was even vaguer and said I would have to choose 2 extra subjects from a big long list. I don't really understand why at one college you would do 4 extra subjects and only 2 at another.

I think maybe I will have to arrange an appointment to go in and talk to someone about the courses.

I started one long ago, but I left to do a foundation course at a Uni instead. Then went right into a degree and saved a lot of time, at least a year. All depends what you're looking to do I suppose. Good luck.
