    Anyone flown on an A380????

    Banned
    .

Getting close to the time I can book my seats for my next trip overseas. Never been on an A380, but have seen the flight decks and think I fancy the upper deck.

Travelling as a party of 4, were looking at taking the window seats in row 78 and 79.

As this is such a big beastie of a plane, just asking in case the choice of rear isnt a good one (or better options are available) We cant take the preferred seats next to the emergency exits 'cos we have 2 kids with us.

Yes because if you think about it most crashes occur belly side down, if you're at the top you've got more of a cushion to land on if there is all those er other people below you :?

if theres a suicide bomber onboard your ****ed either way.....jus sayin' lol

I remember watching a program about plane crashes and it said if you are more than 6 rows from an exit you are very unlikely to make it out in any accident.

jeez. London to the US..... and you wanna talk to me about terrorist possibilities!:?

I know some people who came back on one and their complaints were that there weren't enough toilets for the number of passengers, plus having to wait a long time to get off as the ground infrastructure couldn't cope with the number of passengers disembarking in one go.

I think the pilots have that luxury.

I always check out seating on SEATGURU (seatguru.com).

Have a look - it may be of some use to you.

    Hi there

I use Seat Guru too. It's great. Flown twice on the A380 on my way to NZ with Singapore Airlines. Went London - Singapore on the A380. It is fab, I found there was more legroom and generally more spacious around the cabin. Would def recommend.

When changing in Singapore, do you manage to get off the plane quickly? ie lots of exits used..... and top and bottom decks? My connection in Changi is 2 hours! We missed connecting flights in the US (Delta) when we had 4 hours! Admittedly, you do have to go through customs in the US, but even so, its a worrying thought!

Yep, you won't have any probs. If i remember right, people on the top deck boards where first class boards, so I assume they will exit the same.
You should be ok with your 2 hour stopover in Changi (best airport I have been too)
Not me, but my mum had a 1.5 hour stopover in Changi when she flew to the UK and she was worried that maybe it wasn't enough time to make the connecting flight, but as long as you go straight to the next boarding gate you'll be fine. She made it no probs, and you don't need to go through customs etc so just head to the next gate.

Yeh cheers. I realise its just a transit flight and from what Singapore Airlines said, the terminals or gates wont be too far apart. (Unlike in Atlanta where you have to get a train between!)

First time I went to Changi (which was over 20 years ago), I couldn't help but be impressed. I noticed the skyline difference when I was back there in 96, so I'd bet I won't recognise a thing now. Didnt really like Singapore as a country though. Nice and clean for sure, but just a bit sterile.

6 weeks to go... and everything is falling into place.

Cannot believe how quick my passport was returned!

I only posted it on Monday the 8th February and Ive received it back 7 days later yesterday (15th Feb)

I know they received it on the 9th and they returned it on the 12th. Must be some kind of record (though I can understand why they'd give VIPs special treatment!) :-D

Did you have a stroll around? Just another plane or a bit more than that? Entertainment good?

Reason I asked BTW was to see if the exit from the top deck was from that - or via the stairs.

Jeez! That is tight! Luckily your luggage is just put forward without a reclaim. (I had to do this on Delta flights in Atlanta - and missed my connection 4 hours later!)

I assume you booked your flights same time as me on the Singapore offer early last year?

Any particular reason you going to KL? (Hated the place when I was there - but much will have changed since!)

Yeh i did. I wanted to go to asia, dad has been to KL before so we figured that we should go. Food and accomodation is really cheap there so its a no-brainer really.

Had a good time in Kuala Lumpur. 36.C everyday!

On the way there I nearly had a heart attack when the check in assistant said that my connection was 15 minutes instead of 1hr 15min....and....you had to be at the gate 10 minutes before boarding time so i had to bloody leg it to the sky train at changi and got there just in time (plane left 5 minutes later).

Never again will i get a connecting flight with so little time! If the plane had been delayed i was a goner!

If you come in from Terminal 3 just hurry up and follow everyone else off the plane and you will reach a big open area with departure boards. To the north west of you is the sky train to various terminals. Comes every 3 minutes so quickly get on it but more than 1hr is plenty!

So how was the top deck?

BTW is the cricket pitch next to the train station still there in KL?

My sister flew back from South Africa last Monday (via Dubai) on the A380 with Emirates, but flew first class, so not a good source of info. She did say it was exceptionally quiet though.

    .

I dont know about the cricket pitch as i didnt go by train to KL. If your talking about merdeka square though, yes it still is there.

It was much quieter than a 747 and landing and take off is much more softer. Also you fly higer as well i think we reached 41000ft at one point. In flight entertainment is fantastic and you wont get bored. Also, the staff are brilliant and every thing you needed they would get. Upper deck is better because there is less people than the lower deck so you get more attention from the hostess/hostesses. Only annoying thing is though you have to walk through business class to get to your economy seat and you see them all sprawled out in there lovely seats!

Ta muchly. we got our requested seats as shown in OP.

    Wave to us tomorrow then.

Co-incidently, look out of your window on 15th April at 18.55 and wave. (Yes, we are on SQ318)

Look at the rear top deck, right hand side, just in front of the last emergency door. How will I recognise you? (I expect there will be lots of fans eagerly awaiting my return!) :w00t:
