    Anyone good at maths?

Can anyone work this out for me? Our rent is £1300 per month and i want to work out a fair split as i earn more than my boyfriend. He is on £22k and i am on £36k so how much should we pay each month??

You pay 62%, he pays 38%

This is a relationship that will explode in time.

Surely a fair split is 50/50. I don't get why one should pay more because they earn more... maybe I'm just mean!

What I dont understand is how people who earn this sort of money cant work out a simple percentage calculation!

i agree, mine and my partners money goes into one bank account and everything is just paid out of there, whatevers left just gets spent on the kids or if we want a treat.

thanks Babbabooey - the rest of you - got the monday grumps!??!

This will be good argument fodder against him..........."i pay more than you!!!" X)

50% each its not your fault that you have a higher paid job, im sure you worked real hard to get to the salary you are on on your boyfriend should do the same rather then expecting his girlfriend to prop up his wages so that you both end up with the same!!

have to agree with this one! Or just speak to each other about what they can afford / wish to pay and decide together???

    62% 38% = £ 806 + £494 is the answer to what you asked OP

HOWEVER what's really fair is that you both agree what is fair irregardless of what anyone here suggests

this was my suggestions not his. i wanted to live in the nicer flat and didnt want to skint him out each month just because of my needs and wants!! if we paid half each we wouldnt be able to go out as much because he couldnt afford it. this arrangement suits us!!
Thanks Pontprennau for a reasonable and accurate answer to my question!!

I like it. What's yours is mine, what's mine is mine. Works for us!

Lots of reasons why one party would pay more.

the higher earner may have moved to the other side of the country to be on 35k+ leaving the other side to find a new job, take a pay cut, to stay together.

    Relationships are never simple 50/50...

Because someone gets a good wage it does not mean they work hard or I would be rich.

    OMG lol

Only if the OP gave net income, which I doubt. If you really want to split it 'fairly' ie relative to income as opposed to 50/50, find out your net monthly income, remove bills from these at 50/50, then work it out from what you are left with.

£1300 rent a month wtf. Nearly £16k a year you'll never see again. That would do my head in.

My partner doesn't earn £22K a year, and that's for a family with 2 children and we're not skint. So don't worry- you won't skint him out!!!

    PS.
What job do you do? I'd love to earn £36K a year!!! lol

Lol, my partner's a precision engineer- I wish they'd pay him for his hard work! I wish they'd pay him what he should be on full stop! He's 23 and was fully qualified a couple of years ago, and because of the recession etc, they've paid him a lower wage so it's a case of no job or lowered wage I mean we get by, we don't go without but it annoys me as he's not paid what he should be.

it should depend on who occupies max space in the house and remains in the house max time. then should be split.
