IV got a big pool that im going to set up in our garden soon.

Just got a couple of question's if any one can help me out?

1, Where is the cheapest / best place to get a good deal on the PH control & chlorine tablets?
2, As iv only got the pool at the mo & know nothing about the chemicals do i need to let them be in the water for so long before i let the kids go in to the pool?

Any if anyone get any tips/hints on looking after the pool etc that would be great

cheers

Not sure on the cheapest place for your Chemicals but dose the pool the night before use as a pool needs to rest. A pool is a chemical lesson on a daily basis as remember you are adding Sodium Hypochlorate I.E your Chlorine Tablets or normal bleach and that is an alkaline
you need to keep the water PH neutral around 7 to reverse the alkaline you can add more water as that's neutral but them you lose the chlorine so you add an acid to balance the water .
When people use the pool you are left with a by product known as chloramines as the chlorine is used up and of course UV light also does the same so you have to add Chlorine again to remain effective. A reading of 2 parts per million is ok for the chlorine and no higher than 7.6 for the PH (make sure you have a good test kit)

Complex isn't it! I have 20 years experience looking after pools and they still suprise me at times!

Don't worry to much but get some advice if you can and I found this link that may help

I have a hot tub in my garden

I use granules rather than tablets and use small indicator sticks to test all the PH, alkaline etc. levels

Yeah all that dose sound complex, was hoping it would be a bit easier than that lol.

So i would be needing to add the stuff to the pool every few days & stop the kids using it for a while afterwards. As you say you got plenty of experience how long do you normal leave the filter pump running for. The manual iv got says for no more than 48 hours & then let it cool down.

So is it best to have the pump running while people are in the pool or let the pump run over night when know one using it.

Thanks for the link, rep added

Do you find that granules work quicker or is it cos they are cheaper than tablets?

Best to have it running while people are using it and when you have added the chemicals so as to distribute them so you don't need to run it all the time just when required
