Anyone got a Hotpoint WMD960 washing machine or similar?

Had this washing machine a few weeks now and it is great apart from when it is pumping water out. It make a horribly noisey chugging noise.

My mum and a mate have similar, older model Hotpoints and they don't make this noise.

Just phoned Hotpoint to speak to them about it and when i said i think i have a problem with the pump, she immediately said "Is it making a chugging noise?" To which i said yes.

She said that they are now using different types of pumps that make this chugging noise and that it is normal.

Seems a bit strange for a "Super Silent" washing machine to be making such an annoying noise

Anyone else have the same washing machine, and if so can you let me know if yours makes the noise

This is the sound (not the same model washing machine, but its the same noise) youtube.com/wat…eB8

Thank god someone else's is doing this. I thought i was going mental.

Its the most annoying thing ever. Only had it 4 weeks and want to get rid of it already. I must admit, im a sucker for gadgets and got drawn in by the fancy display. LOL

Think i may have to stick this on eBay cos it is annoying the hell out of me. Bought it so we could put in on the timer before going to bed, and it could come on and be finished before i go to work so i could hang the washing out in the morning. No chance of that with the awful noise it makes!!!

Anyone wanna buy a washing machine

Can anyone recommend a proper Super Silent machine?

our hotpoint is a supersilent thing, and to be fair, its pretty darn quiet most of the time, especially on a spin. never paid much attention to the pump tho. i just know its the quietest machine i have ever had

Yeah, the older models do seem to be Super Silent, but the new ones, since being taken over by Indesit, have a different type of pump and are really noisy!

Loud enough to wake the dead, Hotpoints or should I say indeset are known for this in their newer models, I recently got shot of a similar one.

lol nah. if you asked last week when it was pouring water over the floor then......:whistling:

Easy fixed that tho, cleared the pipe under the drum, now its good again. fingers crossed

mines a wmd940 and it used to be quiet when we lived in our old house as all the floors there were concrete, in this house we have wooden floor boards under our flooring and now it makes a total racket!!! (only when its spinning lyk) apart from that, the cycle is pretty quiet. i like hotpoint - always had there stuff, neva had any bother with it.

What are my options of sending the washing machine back? Nearly had it a month now.

or is my only option to sell it on?

Yeah, thought as much.

Will stick it on eBay and offload it to some poor unsuspecting sod

if under 28 days i believ you can if it is faulty, but as they are saying it isnt then no you cant send it back, i hated mine with a passion, it sounded awful from the day i had it, and they kept saying thats how it should sound, everyone that cane here was shocked by the rocket, it lasted 7 years like this and eventually went bang a few months ago and have never been so relieved for something to conk out, now have a bosch, and cant hear it even in next room

We've been looking at the WMD962P for £319 from John Lewis.........but I keep being put off by the poor Hotpoint users review. Either that or £419 for a mid-range Bosch which looks pretty dated in its design.

Are Hotpoints really that bad now? Our previous Hotpoint (which has just broken down) has been working fine for about 10 years, and only needed one (in warranty) service a few years ago. I assume the 960 is the same as the 962 ????

i replaced my hotpoint with a bosch, and although the bosch was the cheapest it was still nearly £400 but it is so quiet compared to the pile of hotpoint crap i had before

The hotpoint we have is fine, but the noisey pump gets on my nerves. Luckily we have just had a utility room built so it is in there now out of the way and i dont hear it anymore

ATTENTION ....... DO NOT buy a Hotpoint washing machine on the strength of it's "super silent" feacher as it is anything but.
The pump that empties the water sounds like a steam train leaving the station! --- It really is that bad.
and it dominates most of the wash cycle.
This is clearly a Trading Standards issue, as the claim of "super silent" can easily mislead the public into thinking that the whole wash cycle is silent running. .... By definition,SUPER SILENT means NO noise at all.
Any washing machine that was silent running would be defying the laws of physics !!
Buyer Beware !!
