    Anyone got a Toyota Corolla 1.6 T3 or 1.4 T3?

    Anyone got a Toyota Corolla 1.6 T3 or 1.4 T3?

Thoughts on fuel consumption, drive, comfort, reliability etc.

Thinking of getting a 2002 three door to replace the 306 HDI, as it's likely to be more reliable and better built then this.

    Please advise.

my uncle has had one since 04 and never had problems only time it has been back to the garage is for servicing, but i'm not saying that they are all perfect.

if you do get a petrol get the 1.6 t3 will have more power but fuel economy may be a issue.

In fairness it sounds like your mechanic is full of merde. The iCTDi engine on my Accord has to be the best diesel I've driven.

    Get the T-Sport

I'm so indecisive about this as I'm used to getting good miles out of the 306, but the build quality sucks and I wouldn't buy another French car for a long while. Just don't want to be whining at getting under 50 miles out of a tenner from the 1.6 combined miles.

Also the diesels seem to have cam-belts instead of chain.

Also what you getting out of a tenner miles wise if you do it that way indianbelters?

Adam, you can't base your decision on actual mileage from a vehicle on one person's opinion. Perhaps this poster has an erratic driving style/heavy right foot?

Read up on reviews sites on what everyday punters are saying about it - like honestjohn and what car.

the build quality is awful in my auris as well, i am taking it to toyota on thursday they said they are gonna fill my dashboard with foam to stop it creaking on bends, i have had 2 driver and passenger seat braces in a year, the old corolla was classed as "bulletproof" by Clarkson

No moob but I can gather an estimation.

25 Miles out of tenner, that doesn't sound right at all even at 31mpg. I get 70 out of a 306 HDI combined. Doing 50 odd mpg.

You saying that you get 25 miles from 7.5 litres of fuel - a gallon and a half?

Who are you, Lewis Hamilton? X)

TBH you might regret getting rid if your HDI and going to petrol, if you still want economy in a small engine the auris 1.4d4d tr is your best bet i always got 45-50 mpg in down 55-60 motorways, i am not a mental driver or have a heavy foot lol

Can't find any decent for that price. Looking at a Nissan 2005 Almera 2.2 Seem to have good specs and better performance.

this is true but nissans are the most reliable cars i have come across my parents have had them for 21 years and never had a breakdown or any mechanical isues just services done at 10,000 miles and they just keep on going, they currently still have a primera on a 51 plate its had 9 services at 10,000 miles and no issues.

Where are they built part wise and build overall. I guessed the DCI was the renualt one. (Never faulted my 306 engine, just the build quality surrounding it)

if 3 k is your budget then almera or the almera tino was reasonably good but didn't like the look of it

Avoid newer Nissans, ( year 2000 onwards ) they are just rubbish Renaults now, buy a Honda if you want a bullet proof car that is 100% reliable.

If you shop around you can find a golf for a reasonable price with decentish mileage. Check this out Item number: 280678660823

Reading the reviews on Honda Civics, there road noise is the worst in it's category, also the gear box where it is is poor. Only ones I like are the Type S and R. It was my original thoughts.

Only poor reviews seem to be on Nissan are for the 1.5, which I wouldn't touch. If it's only the engine that's french there can't be many complaints on the engine alone. I would hope the rest is Javanese.

Yup my friends dad has a accord estate and the road noise on that was awful, i think nissan is the route to go Adam

    indianbelters

    100% not true

100% true, ask anybody in the trade.

Nissan were once the most reliable cars on the road, then Renault got involved, downhill since.

Toyota are also not as good as they were, a Corolla is a far better made car than an Auris.

    FWIW.

The facts speak for themselves, Honda are known as the most reliable manufacturer - just view the JD Power Surveys from the last decade and you'll see Honda always have at least 3 of their models in the top 10 overall - Nissan don't get a look in - no matter what someone's Dad has driven for the past X number of years.

The issue is, you're looking at buying an older car with your budget Adam, and that's the point where these cars require parts replacing, not to mention most cars having little niggles coming to the fore build quality wise.

You need to decide what your priorities are with regards to the vehicle - mpg/build/reliability/servicing costs etc and do some more research.

The Corolla was a very good car, and reliable - they wouldn't have sold over 35 million of them if they weren't.
