anyone had any experience with NAS? (Specifically the D-Link ShareCenter)

anyone tride out one of these?

I want a nas, currently have a 1tb external drive i could transplant, seems like a decent featreset for a home nas and a good price for dual bay..

anyone have any NAS input as this is unfamiliar territory for me?

Use for serving media to computers and media centre + downloads and maybe a low load web server for a personal site.

I dont think you can take a hard disk out of an external hard disk and put it in the NAS (not without reformatting the disk anyway).

The disk in your external hard drive will probably be in Fat32 or NTFS format.

A disk in the NAS needs to be in EXT3 format (most NAS boxes run Linux and that uses EXT3 for formatting disks).

But you could plug the extrernal drive INTO the NAS and access it that way.

Yea i know it would need to be formatted, i only have bout 300gb of data on there, so would copy off then copy back.

Im just more curious about peoples views on this Nas for the price? theres not many reviews for it at the moment.

Also with NAS does Raid 1 need to be set up with 2 blank disks or could i install another 1tb disk at a latter date and get it set to raid one and it would just copy the data across from the single disk?
