    Anyone had anything similar happen with there bank.

    Hi whilst paying my bills last night i logged on to very to make them a payment and i put all my details in went through security with my bank and the transation on very said they were unable to take this i did try this 3 times and tried again twice this morning before i eventually rang them up and paid over the phone turns out the bank has my road address down first followed by my apartment address and number.
    where as very has the apartment address down first and the road afterwards meaning the address didnt match and thats why it wasnt taking the payments.
    so i got the payment through to them and then checked my bank to realise my bank is holding the money for the other 5 payments i had tried to make and after ringing the bank they have said its because payment did go through on there end now they are saying the payments will go out because they were authorised but very are saying the payments wont be taken and will be returned to my account as its currently only pending but like i say the bank has said they will go out.
    Has anyone had this happen and know whats going to happen with this?
    its an absolute pain having all this money held up so close to christmas.

    which bank. Halifax screwed me over like this one time. They held money... then actually authorised the other payments. So all my money went to the retailer it'll depend on your bank tho

    Its natwest she said keep an eye on my bank and when its all gone out of pending ring and i will be put through to disputes for them to get it back from very which is an absolute pain that they just wont cancel as its left me £258.00 down.

    Yeah I was down a similar amount. I think NatWest will be a bit more on the ball. It was only 2-3 days before they took my money so you may get it back soon.

    Cant you make payment from the bank end rather than the retailer. Seems far less risky. Normall you can get an account number and sort code and your retailer account number goes in a the reference number.

    Yes i will be doing this in future never had a problem before this has just happened at the wrong time.

    When I worked for Woolwich Open plan banking were referred to those as earmarks. We would remove them at customer request but advised if the retailer followed them through for payment the we would pay and it would be upto the customer to take up any problems with the retailer.

    Well natwest has told me they have to see them through as its there policy and then ive got to dispute it afterwards its an absolute pain.

    From memory earmarks last between 7 to 10 days then expire although payment could still be requested upto 180 days again from memory. The reasons some banks are reluctant to remove earmarks is because customers cheat the system when they have very little money. You could ask if they would remove them if the retailer sent them a fax stating they will not collect the money.
