Don't you just hate bloomin back pain??

I get back pains now and again and even sometimes had to take time off work due to this.

Anyway I've had this half egg shaped lump at the bottom now which if rubbed does hurt. I showed my other half tonight and she now says there is now brusing forming around where the lump is under the skin

I haven't hurt myself there though and I obviously need to make an appointment to see the doc, has anyone else had this problem?

Haven't you got a new baby? All that walking around with them takes its toll on your back, I should know!

Go to the docs..asap.

I've had a bad back for about 4 years, even had spinal surgery and now stuck in a wheelchair!! I remember the days when I would take the mickey out of anyone that said they had a bad back...lol

Nothing worse than back pain. Hope it feels better soon.

It also lists walk-in centres.

Get well soon (_;)

saxo go see your gp, theres nothing worse then lower back pain. ive had it 27 years now, had a disc removal & disc fusion that didnt work and made me condition 100 times worse. if you have a bulge and bruising i think you'd be better going to A&E could be a prolapsed disc coming out not in like mine are.
i know this sounds daft but its better if they prolapse out and not in, if they go inward they push on your spinal cord and can major problems then

I shall be goIng to see my doc a.s.a.p

Really, do go ASAP. The chances are that it's nothing significant (actually, try hitting youtube for videos of back boils being popped - some of them are **** huge, and it's probably just that), but I did recently have a friend die of spinal cancer, which could've been avoided if he'd been treated sooner, and I'd hate for the same to happen to you if it is something sinister, so even though it probably isn't, do get yourself down as soon as you possibly can.

Thanks mate

My wife's had a problem for 3 years (torn disc), the doctors are a complete waste of space. Sent her to a 'pain management' clinic where people can talk about how they cope ! I'd think because it save them actually having to do anything. One doc had a message to call her urgently and she got a call back 3 months later....

If you've got back problems don't rely on the NHS to do anything, they seem to have better things to do than trying to help people.

Why do doctors just not know enough?

Surely if feeling a back and touch a lump, they must send the person to have an X-Ray

before they try anything these days they send you to the pain management people, she needs to go back to her gp and demand to see a specialist asap.
it really annoys me when people have back problems no matter how minor to start with and they either dont get it seen to or the gp's dont anything.
she will be offered physo next which helps in the sort term but can aggravate the disc.
your wife and OP you both need MRI scans to see whats causing the pain.

ive suffered 27 years of crap off god knows how many DR's, physo and specialists. being told " your tall and thats the problem" or put on weight or stop lifting, give up work, you name it ive been told it.

i started with a prolasped disc that turned to sciatica which lead to the operation and now i have 3 more prolapsed discs and degenerate disc disease, I was told if i didnt have the operation i would be in a wheel chair by the time i was 40! i am 40 now and been told 5 more years and thats it unless they fuse all the lower part of my spine.
I had an MRI in July and marked as urgent sent to my specialist to see him within 3 months, i phoned to chase it and was told hes gone part time to work more with his PRIVATE patients so they had no idea when i would see him on the NHS but i could pay private at £2000.00 a time!
if you have problems now go get them sorted

Are you able to go to A&E tonight?

Original Poster

I'm not crippled tonight, the lower part is sore (egg bump)

Will contact a doctor about it tho, it's not stopping me walking or that

I have decided to remove the thick n heavy underlay blanket on the bed, although it was nice and soft, it may have been causing issues. I'm now lying on the firm mattress with a fitted sheet.
I blame myself really, our sofa was knackered and the foam was falling through inbetween the elastic spars....I think that's what's done it

I'm bloomin going offshore next sat

Saxo, what you're describing sounds like a pilonidal abscess or a cyst. Are you a man (they're more common in men than in women)? Is it hot to the touch? If it hurts when you touch it, that doesn't sound like general back pain as it wouldn't hurt that way.

Apparently the best way to sleep is flat in your back with a pillow under your knees

Hmmmm can I still use one flattish pillow under my head? Do u think

It could be pilonidol sinus. nhs.uk/con…px I know someone who had symptoms like yours, sometimes it can be caused by an ingrown hair. Best get it checked out.

It's like a small lumpish that I can feel with the tips of my fingers

I can move it ever so slightly when I gently feel my fingers over it. Its def not going anywhere but when I sort of press a bit harder there is a small shooting pain. It's positioned just about 2-3 inches above my bum crack then to the left 1-2 inches

It's def nothing on my spinal part as that's pretty centre, this is a bit more to the left

Really does sound like a pilonidal abscess (or a cyst of some sort if not pilonidal). Don't keep touching it but apply hot compresses to the area. If it gets worse (and painful) go to the doctor who will drain it (ewww!) otherwise it will go away on its own.
Edit: In fact I would go as far to say I'm 99% sure it's a cyst!

If it is a cyst is that dangerous? How easy is it to drain? Surgery

From the photo it doesn't look like a pilonidal cyst as they're normally further down towards the bum! Cysts aren't dangerous and most disappear on their own. Have you had your back waxed or anything recently?! They can be caused by ingrown hairs.

Original Poster

Can't see it being an ingrown hair, it's like an inflamed muscle or (cyst) well under the skin

In my (humble) opinion, it is a cyst. Like I say, don't squeeze or poke at it, but apply a hot compress at night and have hot showers and it should go away. If you poke at it, it'll only get worse and could spread.

saxo, where the hell is your waist? I think this might be the problem.

Just a flannel/towel or something... Put water on it as hot as you can stand... repeat once it starts getting cool... do that for about 10-15 minutes a day. If there is an infection there, it will bring it to the surface. Nice!

Quite often with a pilonidol sinus, you will have to get it drained then actually cut out and you will be left with a deep hole, which will need to be packed for you until it heals over. Its quite a long healing process. I have a couple of friends who have had it, not nice

Just been to the docs

Apparently I have one on the other side of my back, she is referring me to Physio and a scan just to make sure. This could take some time so I'll probably get an appointment through my private health care with the work.

Could be a knot or pulled muscle but the scan should show
