This might seem a bit random but is anybody here a Milkman? I've got an interview on Friday as a Milkman but just wondered what exactly does the job entail? Do you enjoy it? What time do you start/finish? Is it hard work or easy going?
Also do you have any tips for my interview?

You have to put milk outside doors

I heard you get to father lots of children.

It can be pretty tiring pounding milfs all day but its not too bad as a job

peterjmay multi?

I think you get staff discount with The Child Support Agency

I used to be and my brother still is.

My experience was I started at 3am and worked 6 days. Mon to wed were working days of 5-7 hours depending on how quick you were. Thursday started your collecting days which meant calling back on customers up until 5pm. Friday was a long day collecting the remainder of payments , I would finish around 8-9pm. Then start work again on Saturday and finish around 4pm again recalling on customers who didn't pay.

My brother now starts his round at 1am but still works the same sort of pattern

I live in the country so people had dogs to protect there houses and I mean big viscous dogs , it's not the nicest of thing hearing a Rottweiler pounding after you , it does happen.

Lovely free job when we get a summer but it's horrible in the winter.

Thanks trinaandlee. Not too sure I could handle the early start. I struggle getting up at 5am now.

true. People still dress up as cavemen and shout: unga bunga!

If you struggle to get up at 5 then a milkman isn't the career for you I'm afraid.

It is an ok job if the early mornings suit , my brother stuck at the job. He actually earns quite a lot of money but it's not for everyone and certainly wasn't for me.

Or people driving around in the early mornings of summer when you've got your windows open, clinking bottles and driving around in stupid vans.

Someone asked about salary my brother earns over 50k per year.

if they refused to pay id open one of their milks and pee in it, open their gate and have their dog chase me of miles and make sure the dog gets lost. Finally, i would come back and ask they for my money and if they did not give it i would leave, but only after i have slashed 3 tires on each of their cars and threw some brake fluid on their roof.

Do you think they would refuse to pay next time?

btw +£50k for a milkman isnt bad at all..... like being an undercover porn star

I have just finished on the milk after 41 years. 330 calls =approx £420 p/wk... that's on a self employed basis (Dairy Crest)

I'm 39 this year. My brother got me the job for when I left school. I started off as a mate as I was only 16 I couldn't drive. I used to take home £250 per week back then when my mates were on yts training courses taking home £39. I passed my driving test just after my 17th birthday and had my own round I used to see £600 per week and that was the early nineties.

Also your wages do depend on what you sell and the amount . We live in a rural area where people have grocery delivered . I used to have to deliver newspapers aswell . There is sometimes a mile between houses

Forgive me for sounding harsh but were you really grossing over £300, 23 years ago for being a mate on a milkmans round, because to me that sounds totally unbelievable.

My dad was a milk man 30 yrs ago. Not sure on the wage for him back then. But I know he said he used to enjoy it!

Maybe I'm being harsh - if the old white couples weren't around then who knows who might move in and bring the values down.

And I earned more than that 25 years ago (86) I used to get between £60-£70 p/wk just delivering to a 1 corner shop 4 mins work a day. I used to pay my wife £180 p/wk just for helping me now and again. ... Now you know why milk is so expensive from a milkman.
