Richmond council want to charge £46. Zipcar hire is about £11 but I can't drive and recycling place is 3 miles away. Very frustrating.

put it on freecycle

Is it still usable and have all the fire labels? If so, charities will collect it from you as a donation.

Look for ad for Man with a van in local paper?

Chop it up and place in the bin bit by bit. Or any of the above suggestions.

phone council as in merton you are allowed to get rid of either 4 or 5 large items free every 6 months ( some councils charge £10 )
so might be worth a quick ring

Thanks for those suggestions everyone but I have gone through all those already. It can;t go Freecycle as the cat I have has pretty much trashed the arms and it is at least 3rd hand. Because of that condition charities would not take it. Have taken quotes from local man and van companies and had everything from £53 up to £106 (genuinely). Local council was the first thing I did and Richmond Council charges £48 for up to 5 items. Doesn't matter if there are less, flat fee is that.

Finally found someone who can do it for £30 so all sorted now.
