    Anyone know about disabled railcards?

I know someone who has some psychological issues and physcial ones (bad back for physcial and a lot of leg pain though says this was after he was assessed so not part of his money) psychologically he says he gets lost in places he doesnt know even train station and part of the money he gets is supposed to help him get someone to accompany him.

He himself isnt sure if this is carers allowance or anything and says his DLA comes to £80 a week.

He wants to do a bit of travelling and has recently moved and spent quite a bit but the fares are so expensive i.e £45 single(about 4 times what they were 2 years ago for the places) so would help him psychologically a lot.

I think he means he gets lost and confused the first few times he goes and panicks, hes not young hes 40 soon but he tells me that the first time he goes somewhere he panicks as he doesnt know what to do, after a few times he knows whats hes doing so is fine but says if they use a different platform or style of train or similar for buses i.e change the number but same route he gets confused and panicky.

He likes to travel but says he drinks quite a lot of stuff like vodka each day(like a quarter bottle) to numb his leg pain but loves to walk!

so he wants extra money to visit every place from every platform so he wont get lost again after the first few times, ermmmmm what you actually mean is he could do with the extra money for the vodka - lol

No, I think he means he gets a little extra for support and that he likes to travel but doesnt because of leg pain he tells me he drinks it in the morning to relax him, never known him to be drunk though and I see him almost every day.

He isnt sure about his entitlement to a railcard, hes also a student and gets a lift to when hes in classes(he's part time student) so he should get a 16-25 railcard but was refused as he was too old(I know its mainly for full time students but know part time ones with it)

so exactly what does he want, your talking in riddles - lol

I don't know about the present system but during my over 30 years of service you only had to phone and ask for customer service to meet you. they would also make arrangements at your destination and any transfer points inbetween. The present airport system is based on the lessons learnt on BR.

Correct - most stations now have what they call "station porters" that you can book in advance.

    1. Can I obtain a 16-25 Railcard as a Mature Student aged over 26?

If you are 26 or over, you will need proof that you are a full-time student at a recognised educational establishment. You must attend for over 15 hours a week and for at least 20 weeks a year. You can either show an ISIC card (International Student Identity Card)or have the 'Mature Students Only' section of the application form completed and certified. Because we need to see this proof, you must apply at a staffed station ticket office or rail appointed Travel Agent. NUS cards will not be accepted as proof of age/educational status (Open University, distance learning and part-time courses do not qualify).

Go to the train st ask for a form for a disability rail pass then it just needs filling in and proof he is disabled ie dla letter then send it off and you will get it a couple of weeks later:thumbsup:
