Anyone know about JSA and holidays?

We booked our holiday early this year (in the UK) and just realised that my husband signs on on the monday were away... someone has told me that we lose our benefits for them 2 weeks, but someone else has said to tell them and he can sign on early?

    Does anyone know??

Have a read of ]THIS but to be safe, i'd contact Job Centre to be 100% certain cos it would be a nightmare to ask on any forum and be told the wrong info......good luck

This has been asked also on MSE

    Thank You very much!

    You're very welcome
Having read the MSE thread, seems you can go, 2 weeks for a break as long as you let them know in advance and yes, fill out the right form

Where staying in the UK for our holiday..

I filled in the forms a few months ago and they stopped my benefit they told me i was not seeking work while i was on holiday in uk!!!

A mate of mine told me next time to ring the jobcentre on signing day and tell them you are sick apparently you can ring the JC and tell them you are sick a maximum of once per year!!

I think it all depends who you speak to at JC wether they stop your benefit or not!!

Surely if you are not looking for work as on holiday then you wouln't be entitled??

I am in a situation where I am also going for a holiday and it's for 3 weeks. I talked to an advisor and I was told that I need to sign off JSA for the time being and when I come back I make what is called Rapid Re-claim which will put me back to where I was before I went for a holiday. All that means in your case that you will lose 2 weeks of JSA pay.You should do it this way it's better than to lie. Good luck

Sorry to chirp in, but it won't be that easy in some circumstances.
If you're rent and Council tax is also being paid due to being unemployed, you'd not only lose the 2 weeks JSA but be responsible for rent, C Tax and any other benefits during those 2 weeks.......

The arguement would be - if you can afford to pay for your holiday plus spends, then why are you going when you should pay your rent and C Tax...

    In my eyes anyhow.

Same situation as OP 2 years ago.

offical response was that I must sign off as I would be unavailable for work.

Then have to sign on again upon my return

In the end, I just rang them and said I had flu and went on my return from hol so didnt lose anything.

What to do if your circumstances change
You must tell Jobcentre Plus as soon as possible about any changes in your circumstances. For example, this could be if you:

    move house
start any kind of work, training or a university or college course
become ill or go into hospital
go on holiday in Great Britain or abroad
gain capital (including savings and investments) for example property is left to you
In many cases you'll still be able to claim JSA, but if you don't report a change in circumstance you could lose your benefit.

Best to contact your local J/C.

maybe cos most holiday companuies wont refund if hol is already paid for and they may well have All inclusive so hardly much spending involved.

Dont you think that losing your job is bad enough without losing a paid holiday too. It may well be the last one they get a chance of having for years

I'm in a Simular Situation, I'm attending a Funeral in Cornwall on the 7th to the 8th, I sign on the 7th August but get back on the 8th August in the evening, What can I do? I've tried calling them up today but they are closed Sundays, Can anyone help? They have witnessed that i've desperately tried to get work lately as they are known for me getting a 2nd Interview last week and another interview before that during the month and in reply of getting a final word back from the store manager, Surely something can be done I cannot miss this Funeral.

I love it how all these ppl pop out and go on about how tax payers are paying for our holidays.. my husband was made redundent begining of December and we've had other family problems at the start of the year so my mum paid for our holiday for us and my dad is giving us some spending money.

My husband looks everday online so would be able to look whilst on holiday and were we are going is a 2 hour drive away so not exactly the other end of the country.. Maybe it would be best for him to drive home, sign on then drive back to the holiday!
