Anyone know alot about mountain bikes??

Just tried to fit my disc brakes from my marin on an old trek fuel slr I bought on ebay but it has odd size disc mounts on the frame & forks?
The front is 75mm from eye to eye of the disc mount & the rear is 45mm, do I need 140mm disc brake & 180mm instead of the standard 160mm??
Have taken some pics & will leave plenty of rep for any help

SHANECR should be able to help

Those eyelets are not disk mounts, they're for mounting a rear rack onto your bike.
You'll need to buy clamp on disk mounts if you want to run disks, I'm not sure how well they work though.
Can you take a photo of your fork eyelets?

The manual says its disc compatible so I think it is but the wholes are slightly closer together than my 160mm disc caliper so I think its for the smaller 140mm.

Ah okay, so you have post mounts on your fork. Have you bought a post mount calliper? If not, and you have an IS (international standard) mount calliper then you can buy adaptors so that you can still fit your brakes.
But yea, if it doesn't quite fit then you might need the 140mm calliper.

Yes post mount but its to short so not sure if I need 180mm or 203mm, don't know how you work out what caliper you need by measuring the distance from the mounts & cant seem to find a website that tells you.
Probably best to find a good shop I think, thanx for your help anyway I'll leave some rep

The caliper's dont tend to change - they are generally sized to fit direct with 165mm rotors and will need an adapter for 180mm/203mm rotors. 203mm rotors are very big mind - the might not fit properly in a lot of frames/forks.

Adapters can be bought/sourced at all good bike shops and indeed Halfords too, but ]chain reaction have a pretty big range + free delivery...
