I've got a few films on my computer that my dad would like to see, but he hasn't got a computer that he can watch them on. I'm trying to work out how to burn them onto a dvd for him. I'm guessing that I need to download something. Any help would be great as I haven't got a clue what to do!
Thanks

Use Nero/photo And Video/make Your Own Movie

Use ConvertXtoDVD or DVDflick, both good tools. Probably prefer the first though

If you need any more help just ask

I used this program before which seemed pretty good but it isn't free

I use Nero to burn most DVD's but I can't remember if it will do the converting as well and I can't check as I'm still at work :'(

You need to convert the A.V.I. format to a DVD format, for this you will need some software. I would suggest CONVERTXTODVD this is the software I use and it works very well. Another option is to get a media player like the ones they sell in Maplins put in your own spare hard drive, connect to you PC via usb copy the films over to the media player then connect the media player to you TV and you can then watch A.V.I. films on your TV through the media player.
Hope this helps you

Do you have Vista Home Premium? Then Windows DVD Maker is good.

Just had a quick read and ConvertXtoDVD will put a watermark on your dvd unless you buy it. Unless you get it from an alternative source perhaps?

Maybe have to stick with dvdflick? Give that a go first and see what you think.

Just FYI conversion will take approximately 2:1 so if the movie is 1.5hr allow 3hrs. Rough guide only, depends on lots of stuff

Seconded, ConvertXtoDVD is the best I've come accross.

you could try just burning the avi to the cd
some dvd players do play avi's/divx even if they are not divx players
and tends to be the cheaper end of the market ones
worth a punt as a cd only cost about 10p
and if it does work you can then try to burn about six 700mb films to 1 dvd so thats six films for about 20p

get convertxtodvd version 2.0

version 3 is rubbish and doesnt autoburn to DVDRW!

I find it takes about an hour to convert & burn a 2 hour movie
