Is 5.1 possible with it?, with a 5.1 sound card of course.

You want your pc sound to come through the speakers in 5.1, right?

Just buy an optical cable (also known as TOSLink). I t will go from your sound card to the optical input on the system and you should get great 5.1 sound!

My soundcard doesn't have optical input unfortunately.

    What are my options?

Dont feel confident opening up my new pc and fitting one with optical. Can i buy an external one?, then uninstall the one already in.

You mean your sound card doesn't have an optical output. The only other input you can use is the L+R phono. Depending on what outputs your sound card has, you can hook up a cable to that but it won't be digital 5.1, just stereo or analogue surround.

If you don't have a DIGITAL out then you will not be able to connect to this for 5.1 sound. Your only other option is to use a 3.5mm jack (from your LINE OUT) to a 2 phono lead which would then connect to your AUX (red/white inputs) on your sound system, but like he^ said with this you will only get stereo sound NOT 5.1.

Post a pic of you pc sound card outputs so i can see what you got to play with.

Its just a standard sound thingy that came with it, not even a card tbh.

I want 5.1 with optical output. Stereo sound aint gonna cut it.
Can any of you recommend me one?, on the cheap side of course !.

Thanks for the help so far.

well any s/card with optical out (dolby/dts logo) will do, the decoding is really going to be at your sound system end.

Or something similar should do the trick as your AVR will do the decoding.
You can probably disregard the bad review written in 04 as i am sure the drivers are now available!
