Anyone know if there's a cheap way of getting a BT phone line/plan ?

My son's renting a flat in a week or two and the only supplier is BT (this is in the middle of West Wales, the exchange isn't LLU'd). There's a line in but the last tenant didn't have it connected.
I'm trying to find any options, but I have a feeling that as BT are the only company they'll change what they like. . .

i have a bt phoneline just so i can use the internet...but i have just had a letter from them saying they are increasing the line rental, even though it is in the middle of a 12 month contract i have with them, and apparently i have no say in it.....so i have no help for you but this thread could interest me too

That's what he wants. Just BB but there's isn't a package. Just so BT can get the max out of you each month...

i get the free eveing and weekends one, but i dont have a landline at all...i think its about £15 at the moment, not too sure though!

Don't know about the LLU thingy but I've just done some research for my mum as BT said only they could connect the line, however I found the Post Office could too for a site cheaper and with no minimum contract (unlike BT). Worth a call.

how about going mobile? starting from £5 a pm you may get a canny deal.. we've just opted for 02, at 7.50 per month and its fab

Madasafish will do an installation slightly cheaper than BT and they do not tie you in to a 12/18 month contract (it's 3 month I think).

I would question if he needs a landline though as you can now get reasonable rates on mobile phones and mobile broadband (3G). The only reasons I can think of for needing a landline is gaming on the internet and Sky installations. If it is a Sky installation that is the issue then talk to Sky as they are usually willing to do a deal if you sign up with them for the phone. They may not be able to reduce the cost of landline installation but they usually make it up with discounts elsewhere.

    Hope this helps.

Just taken a look, not enough monthly limit. Most I can find is 10 gig month, he uses it to watch TV and can get through 10 gig in a weekend. Nice idea, but until they start to give reasonable limits not a viable option...
